I've lived out of state for some time and might be moving back to the metroplex in the next few years after the kids leave the house.

What areas should I start monitoring for moving to with just the wife and I. A few considerations:

  • Don't care about schools
  • Don't want downtown/overly crowded areas but not looking for a population of 25 people. Somewhere in the middle.
  • 1-2 acres would be nice, but not a deal breaker.
  • Would prefer south over north due to family in the area but either is fine.

Thanks for the recommendations.

Unless you have mad money, you are looking on the extreme edges. Might (might) be able to find that in Rowlett or Sunnyvale, or you are looking out towards Ennis/Waxahachi/Alvarado.

Midlothian too. Wife's stepbrother lives on a 1.2 acre lot there in a neighborhood built in the early 2000s where most lots are similar. Beautiful wooded lot. The house is only about 2500 sq ft. but it's nice with a pool. Zillow has it $490-$550k. That stretch around there seems pretty popular for big lots due to folks looking for something like you are

Depending on budget, Rockwall/Heath checks those boxes. 1-2 acres though you're probably looking at $1M+ for a nice house on it.

LOL House next to me is going up in June. Getting rid of the crazy that lives there. Rockwall is nice.

I'd recommend the area between Joshua, Godley, and Crowley. Cresson could be a good spot, too.

What about around Waxahachie? Always seems like cool area. And the HS team is still the Indians.

Waxahachie is nice if you want to live in a country, small town setting, but only 30 minutes away from the large city.

Where does your family live to the south, closer to Hillsboro or San Antonio?

If North, look at Lucas and Fairview. If South, Sunnyvale, Midlothian, and Waxahachie.
