Quick question,

2 unit house and got the diagnosis today on our 4 ton American Standard unit that the condenser coil needs replacing. New condenser coil for this unit is quoted at $4500 (WOW!). New unit (4 ton 16 seer) quoted at $10,300 for an Armstrong (this company only installs Armstrong). If I use this company, I am getting a new unit given the pricing. My questions...

1. Any thoughts on Armstrong (never heard of them - made by Lennox)?
2. Any recommendations of someone in North Fort Worth I should be shopping for a comparison (different brand, other)?

American Standard is made by Trane. I would try and stick with them. Even the lowest SEER rated units now are very efficient compared to the old. It's a long payback on higher-SEER models. Trane and Lennox are your best brands in the long run. But having an installer you trust and like is the most important.

Whatever you do, replace the entire system, evaporator and compressor. You only get the increased efficiency if you replace the entire system. And since that's the giant electricity user in your home, you want the full efficiency.

We had Burke mechanical replace our ancient a/c 4 yrs ago with an American standard and have been pleased. Brads wife I think is an Ag.
