A lot of Far North Dallas apartment complexes have been going downhill for years and years now.

Ten days ago, I moved away from this red dot southwest of the apartments. It seems we chose wisely.

A few weeks back, the intersection of Midway and Frankford there was overrun with Venezuelans for the election.

No doubt. That complex in particular has been trash for awhile. It's a perfect post for gangs. Somewhat closed off but close to the west Plano $.

Cara Mendelson is disputing this report on Twitter, and says that video is over a year old, and was not Venezuelan gangs.

I'm also not sure what kind of publication the Dallas Express is, but seems to peddle fake bs like this often.

Yup. Lots of dicey apartments right there along bush - that one in particular is hood.

I accidentally ended up driving down that road back in there once and I thought I had ended up in south dallas. I think a lot is section 8.

It's also just the sheer concentration of them up there - block after block after block of 3-story apartments, all built around the same time so they're all aging (poorly) at the same time. Basically the next generation of the Five Points area near Park & Greenville.

It's funny you mention South Dallas, because, shockingly, that area is gentrifying …to a degree. Drive down Pennsylvania Ave, and you'll see a dozen new build homes worth $400k or more.

There is nothing in that article that says anything about Venezuelan gangs terrorizing a North Dallas neighborhood. Flag this crap.

The headline is "Venezuelan gang is terrorizing north dallas neighborhood". The quote from the dpd spokesman is that there is known Venezuelan gang activity.

The original article also had a video, that is now removed that showed a brutal fight from over 12 months ago, and claimed that was a recent Venezuelan gang attract on an innocent north dallas citizen.

This is clickbait bs at best, if you think there is a Venezuelan gang terrorizing north dallas please provide actual evidence.

Quote:

...Dallas police officials did confirm, separately, that the department is investigating gang activity in the North Dallas area linked to Tren de Aragua.

"Our department is collaborating with other agencies to address possible crimes linked to this and other gangs in our city," Dallas police said in a statement.

DPD is spewing racist MAGA fearmongering now!

Quote:

The video in question was recorded in October 2023, sources told WFAA. The footage shows a man getting brutally beaten by a group of Spanish-speaking men. Gang unit officers investigated the incident and carried out enforcement at apartments in the Haverwood Lane area of North Dallas, police sources told WFAA. Police did not believe the assault was linked to gang activity.

You can't possibly draw the conclusion that crime at a location is related to gang activity, so this is all put to bed. Good to know.

Article can be **** and there can be gang activity. Those are not mutually exclusive realities and it's amazing how many people concluded that there is no issue because the article was written by AI or a barely literate person even though it eventually did include quotes allegedly from Dallas officials sources from a legitimate source.

Now that wfaa has posted quotes from DPD stating they are investigating gang activity related to this gang is it suddenly real? Is this Schrodinger's Gang?
Coates

Who is saying it's suddenly real? The article had a bunch of bs, including trying to claim that a year old video was a recent gang attack.

I live in north dallas, there are no Venezuelan gangs terrorizing our neighborhoods. Sorry, but this isn't the boogeyman you think it is.

.

I didn't claim it was a boogeyman. You've created a strawman about what I have stated and setup a false dichotomy about the article. It's absolutely possible for the article to be extremely poorly written and yet still contain valid information. Nobody that has criticized the article has addressed the dailymail quotes. Writing off what the dailymail wrote because this article is garbage is not being an honest, critical thinker.

The gangs are here per DPD. They are criminals and not good neighbors by their very nature. The Aurora situation was real but overstated. These are neither contradictory nor exaggerated claims. I made no boogeyman of it, merely pointed out that even though the original article was piss poor, it did eventually include info from DPD that the gang is here, sourced from a legitimate news source. And yet some are trying to deny that reality.

You live near the apartment complex in question?

I live close enough to that area to get the ring neighborhood notifications but not close enough to be concerned. That area, including the apartments west of it on the other side of the tollway, have been a problem since we moved here in 2016.

I'm not saying that a Venezuelan gang hasn't setup shop there but the crime is nothing new and it's not just migrants. The way the article was written seems designed to get clicks and reads like fear pron.

I live a few miles away from the "action" in these stories. Here's my take.

Have not seen any direct increase in violent crime in our neighborhood, although property crime in general seems to be at an all time high (porch pirates, stuff getting stolen out of open garages, etc.). Attributable to "Venezuelan gangs?" Probably not.

What I do believe is real is that there is a large and growing immigrant community in several of the apartment complexes along Timberglen (and really anywhere in the vicinity of the SE nook of PGBT and the DNT). From multiple complaints I see on Nextdoor and other 'hood-centric FB groups, there are major issues with parking lot parties that run all night long (sometimes until 5am) where they basically take over a strip shopping center, have multiple vehicles with insanely powerful sound systems pumping out music, etc. I kind of shrugged it off until I saw someone post some photos of some of the sound systems in question. It makes the subs and amplifiers that me and my friends in high school played around with look like something out of a Fisher-Price toy catalog.

There was one post in particular from a guy which caught my attention. He said he had lived and traveled all over Central and South America (and is Hispanic himself)... his comment was "after driving around the areas and observing what's going on during the day and at night, the people doing these all night parties are immigrants and have not been here very long at all, for what it's worth."

My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from a guy who knows a kid who's going with the guy who saw a guy from Tren de Aragua at the ice cream shop last night. He said the place has now been taken over and is called Treinta y Un Sabores. I think it's serious.

I just picked 2023 as it's not the more media-frenzied ones that made the headlines but here is a whole article about one caravan, heading through Mexico, describing thousands of people and their struggles to get through on their way to the US border. Logistics is a mess and multiple NGOs are involved, the Mexican government struggling to process it.

But sure, it might not exist at all!

I think people are questioning the source for good reason.

The Dallas Express was a Black owned newspaper that ran from 1892 to 1970. It focused on news surrounding the Black community of Dallas, wrote about lynching, violence against Blacks, advocated for public housing, civil rights, segregation, etc.

It 2021 it was bought Metric Media News who owns 1000+ similar "local" news sites. These "newspapers" are not local and end up just spreading a lot of fake articles often taking conservative stances. They don't follow any sort of journalistic standard and are known for putting out actual fake news stories. They typically have a small staff that pumps out the same articles to a bunch of different "local" news sites and changes the pertinent details. Outfits like Metric Media are known as Pink Slime Journalism
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pink-slime_journalism

To be clear, Pink Slime outfits cover a wide array of the political spectrum, not just conservatives. They exist to generate clicks, stoke outrage, and push hyper partisan viewpoints. Metric Media is probably the largest network and happens to be right leaning.

The article says they stopped in a town. What happened to them? Does this actually have anything to do with the United States or is this just a local protest as the article suggests ?
