Looks like tax bills have been mailed out... They assume the proposition passes in November. My tax bill dropped about $1K from what it was last year.

I noticed that the exemption is shown as $100,000. In previous years, it was not a round number (e.g. 52,820, and then the next year 54,320, and so on). Will the 100,000 exemption increase similarly or did something else change to eliminate some of the previous exemption amounts in favor of a general 100,000 exemption?

haha I saw the envelope and no way I opened it until I saw this.

My tax is down $893 over prior year. If I exclude 60k increase in ISD exemption I'm still in a favorable position.

Collin county dropped the tax rate, Town of Prosper and Collin College increased the exemption rate.

I'm not following your exemption question. The prior ISD exemption was 40k and the proposed is 100k.

are you looking at an exemption unrelated to your ISD? those can be a percentage of your value or a fixed amount (e.g. collin college is 20% or minimum $5k)

Just looking at last year's property tax notice, the homestead exemption is listed as: $58,762
For the previous year, the homestead exemption is listed as: $53,420

This year's notice: The homestead exemption listed is: $100,000

I bought my house this year and still got the over 65 exemption from the prior owner. It is about half of what I was saving for. Throwing myself a little party.

not sure why that's the case - you must have another exemption in place beyond the statutory 40k that was in effect. an ISD can offer an optional percentage exemption up to 20% i just don't know of any that do that. googling your ISD's tax rates and exemptions should help you find an explanation.

for this year, that approach is probably the minimum exemption, but now that 100k is higher than the old calculation 100k would apply.

Noticed that my big exemptions are for Southlake and Carroll ISD, while the exemptions for Tarrant County, TCC and JPS (the three I hate sending money to) are pretty negligible.

It seems based on this thread and others I have talked to that only the school district taxes have been adjusted based on pending legislation. Will there be adjustments for city and county later?

no. the legislation is for ISD's. but ISD's are the bulk source of taxes.

500 dollars cheaper than last year, 1900 less than it would have been (assuming votes come in on November 7th). This is with a 10% increase in value.

All that said, I expect the ballot to be written with some triple, quadruple negatives that make you vote against the current proposition to lower property taxes.

I don't have mine but you can go to the county tax collector website and see your tax bill (I am in Collin county)

the ballot language is available online. many websites have published their position on voting yea or nay.

https://www.sos.texas.gov/elections/forms/november-2023-ballot-language-14-finalwprops.pdf

for collin county you can find a sample ballot of your precinct exactly how it will appear in person. I assume the other DFW counties do as well.

Appreciate the links. But I wasn't specifically talking about the people who visit here.

gotcha. no worries, I'd rather overshare than not. i think its fairly straightforward language but the general public is...the general public and anything goes.
