Curious what the weekly cost is to have a pool service to clean the pool and maintain chemicals? I'm near George Bush and the Tollway area, any recommendations for reputable companies and costs appreciated. My pool is approximately 15K gallons, chlorine pool. TIA

Out in the burbs, things are a bit cheaper. I'm in Flower Mound and my guy charges us $130 for weekly cleanings and chemicals. He'll also clean out our filter every six months for $90. We initially thought we would keep him for six months and then I would take over, but he was so inexpensive and the pool has never gone green, so we decided to keep him.

Not sure if you mean $130 per week or $130 for the whole month. If $130 per week you need to shop around.

Hey Jeffster, I chatted with my pool guy and right now, he has all the pools he can handle and is actually hoping some will drop off. He only services Flower Mound and Lewisville and a few homes in Coppell. If he starts adding pools, I'll send you his info.

Not judging anyone for paying for the service, but it's not that difficult to do yourself once you learn a few things.

I agree that it's probably not that difficult to do it yourself, but what are the costs for the chemicals right now? Also, tracking them down and actually getting chemicals in the last couple of years seemed to be a beat down, at least according to my pool guy. I know, I know, first world problems, but I figured I'd rather spend time with the family than driving around town trying to find "shock" or chlorine on my days off.

Well if you follow the recommended methods on troublefreepool, the primary item you end up buying is liquid chlorine. Easy to find these days. I have it delivered from walmart.com. One of the cheapest places you can find it. Delivery is free if you buy enough of it.

Yep. Liquid chlorine and muriatic acid are the only two things I routinely add to the pool. I do keep a stash of pucks on hand for when we go out of town. Can usually find 4-packs of gallon chlorine (10%) jugs at home depot. They jacked up the price this year to $30 or so... used to be $16.

What would you say you spend per month on chemicals? Ballpark figure is good.

During the summer probably around $75-100. Winter way less... you burn through way less chlorine and I probably spend less than $20.
