Don't get too excited. Their plans for Mansfield were announced in 2016 and they still haven't broken ground.
That's because Mansfield is ass, my dude. Demographics there vs Frisco are, shall we say - different lol.
And yet there will be an HEB in Mansfield first.

Let me help you - I know you moved way north to escape any and all minorities - but racial composition does not equal demographics.

In the biggest news of August and maybe all of 2022, adored Texas supermarket chain H-E-B is opening a location in Tarrant County: specifically, Mansfield.

We'll still be closer to an HEB than you will in about 2 months. Nice attempt to dunk but they sat on that land for 6 years before developing.

Expected kickoff for the Prosper location is tied to the completion of the DNT overpass over 380. Scheduled to be finished in spring 2023… that and there will be another 2,000 houses completed in that timeframe within a 3-mile radius.

Not sure what you're getting at here, but I sell shopping centers (more specifically retail with quite a few being grocery-anchored) and can elaborate a little on what I think the previous poster was meaning. While racial composition doesn't equal "demographics", that category damn sure better be in the demographics report because both the grocer and investors who buy the centers are paying very close attention to that category.

Assuming you live in Mansfield, congrats on getting one close to you. I'm surprised they went there over somewhere in Fort Worth closer to their other stores (Cleburne, Hudson Oaks, etc.). I think they're about to start coming in hot!

Uhh, the HEB in Frisco is almost complete and will open in a few months. That article says that they'll break ground in Mansfield sometime next year.

I have a kid in class who was just hired at the HEB in Frisco. She said they expect to open before Halloween.

My old neighbor said they were shooting for first week of October.

Edit to add she is a Corporate HEB trainer and her husband is runs the loss prevention. We should have the Prosper location opened up in fall of 2024 supposedly now.

Another Fun Fact about the Frisco HEB, the rented empty retail space right in front of the Market Street at Eldorado and the Tollway for their hiring office. That's a baller move.

That is pretty big brained. They shouldn't waste their time hiring across the street from the Kroger on Teel.

Lol that is definitely a power move. North Dallas market is about to get a taste of the new kid on the block. Had dinner with some friends last night and one girl said John Butts (maybe John?) CEO/president lives in Dallas. Didn't know that. Strange to think leader of the Free World of groceries would reside in Highland Park. Guess not.

Charles is the CEO and looks like he lives in SA still. Wouldn't doubt if their family had a house in HP though as well. I'm sure they have stupid money.

wasn't sure exactly which Butt it was. But the girl I was talking to is a dental hygienist and cleans his teeth so I imagine there in HP often.. maybe it's a kid or something.

I'm having fun on Nextdoor, saying things like "I hope they come in and annihilate Tom Thumb. The olds are not happy with me. Have had to explain a few times that HEB is more "local" than TT now, since they sold out to Safeway.

It will be fun to watch. Old locals to DFW have no idea what's about to happen. They will kick all grocers asses in short order. Hopefully the competition will make their competitors better as well though!
ChoppinDs40

100%. Competition in Dallas is just location-based right now. HEB gonna change the game.

I do my weekly grocery shopping at that market street and bore witness to the line of people wrapped around the building a few weeks ago during a hiring event.

Easily 100+ people waiting in the afternoon heat for a shot to work at HEB!

The grocery scene in DFW was much better before Tom Thumb was bought by Safeway. The one that we had in my hometown was every bit as good as the central market we shop at now. It went downhill drastically when they sold. There were also several local non-affiliated stores that were great for customer service and product selection. But all of that changed in the late 90s to early aughts. It is disgraceful how it has been for the last few decades.
agcrock2005

It really turned to **** when Albertson's bought Safeway a few years ago. HEB will tear them all to bits if they don't make some big changes. I think them coming to DFW will force the others to get their crap together. At least that's how competition is supposed to work. We shall see.

6 years ago today, the HEB purchase of the Sunfresh in Lake Highlands broke. The building is still empty.

Being private gives HEB tons of flexibility to be strategic. It also lets them sit on assets, impact to the community around said asset be damned.

I'm still surprised they didn't go hard at the old Albertsons/Sunfresh location at Lemmon/McKinney. An HEB or Central Market would have killed it there I think.

Last I heard they were trying to go mixed-use there with grocery on bottom and multifamily/condos above and were having trouble with zoning. Haven't looked into it in a couple years though. Definitely out of their wheelhouse though it would seem.

I shop at that Market St as well and think they've done a good job supporting the community. They hire nearly everyone's kid to sack groceries, etc. I think they'll be 2nd place to HEB. Kroger's on Main and Teel is toast. Their management and employee attitude's going to bite them in the ass.

Unless something has changed, I believe Albertson's owns Market Street. Lot of consolidation in the grocery market in the last decade!

Edit to say that Market Street is way better than other traditional Albertson's brands, but parent company isn't the greatest.

Marketstreet in Frisco is where I go for "I need 2 things but want to buy something cool for Sunday dinner"

We just do Kroger pickup for the milk, bread, and cigarettes weekly staples.

HEB pickup /delivery is going to change everything. I bet they'll have 30 pickup lanes that will be slammed all day, erruhday.

This is still in the works, it has just been dragged out by both City of Dallas development delays (of course) along with a mid-design change in the mixed-use component mix. The most recent announcements have stated that this store will be a Central Market.

Is anything going to happen there? I'd love to have an HEB that close. We use the Kroger at Plano Rd but mostly do the curbside or delivery. I don't go hardly at all.

HEB is "still analyzing". What complicates it is that the big box, bank, and gas station are owned by some group in Houston and leased to HEB, while the strip is owned by someone else. But lets be honest, if HEB wanted the whole strip, they could buy it. It isn't like their are any A+ retail shops. Yeah, it would suck to make Rooster move, but hey.

That sucks. They would kill it at that location.

We will take a cooler with us when we visit family or friends and are driving near an HEB so we can stock up on HEB brand things.
