Busy day today for me....another administration official contacted me under the COO....this one was WAY different than the other. She said the intent was kids to be 3+ feet away or have to wear a masks. If a student start getting close the teachers will be telling kids to wear masks. They are to "monitor" the situation.

Complete and total insanity.

I honestly believe the rollout of this "end of year" policy was a terrible decision as there is effectively no change.

I get the frustration. And the playground stuff doesn't make much sense.

But it seems that a sticking point for you is putting the mask on upon exiting the car vs putting it on upon entering the building. This difference appears miniscule and not worth the effort. Like the first response said, I'd probably let it ride and fight it in the fall if necessary (I highly doubt it will be).

And at least the admin is communicating with you. Keep in mind that they, like a lot of us, have had to deal with a lot of crap in the last year plus. Good luck!

My biggest point is recess / PE but the to/from car is just plain silly and maybe i bring it up more than i should here as it is just so laughable....

Edit: I will add everyone in the admin that i have talked to has been very nice and quick to respond so very happy with that. Our principal is nice too but I honestly believe she is more of a "pro-masker" and uses that as her basis for school policy.
Another possibility is that maybe she's not necessarily a pro-masker at heart, but she's so tired of fielding calls and complaints from the pro-maskers that it's easier for her and the school administrators to just make everyone wear masks as much as possible.

I would bet this is the issue. The left has pushed this for 15 months, and they aren't letting up. They'd probably rather hear complaints about wanting your kids exempt from wearing masks than the idiots who think an 8 year old needs to wear one at all times.

I was in Costco last weekend with my 8 year old and 14 year old. 8 year old didn't have a mask on, because he doesn't have to. 14 year old pulled his down to say something to all of us and you would have thought that we just shot someone when two employees came over and told him he has to put his mask on or needed to leave. I had words with them and they walked away, but this **** has to stop.

People have been picketing Prosper school board meetings to take the masks completely off for months. One group even started raising money to put a billboard defaming the superintendent about it.

Basically, the message is, since TEA hasn't changed the rules on quarantining (I.e., if you're close contact with someone who tests but don't have a mask, you're sent home and everyone else who contacted - if you're close contact but had a mask, you just get tested and move on your merry way).

They're keeping them on to keep the year intact. STARR testing is this week (last week is next week).

Everyone's been told to just ride it out 2 more damn weeks. Masks are gone next year and they've already said as much.

Meh, would rather deal a stupid mask policy that is gone in two weeks versus having to send my kids to Dallas schools.

Exactly. With how they have the kids seated + masking, Plano essentially considers no one as a close contact needing quarantine when a kid tests positive. When there is a positive, the questions and issus that lead to quarantining tend to involve who they were hanging out with unmasked right before or after school, because those are the risk areas in losing kids to TEA quarantine rules. This approach is about keeping kids in school to get thru STAAR.

which as much as I hate the "just deal with government" BS, it makes sense. Just suck it up.

Now... if they bust them out next year, then it's time to raise hell.

Curious to see if they are as quick now to remove masks now as they were to make our kids put them off.

I really doubt any school is going to change anything with 1.5 weeks left. You're just setting yourself up to get even more worked up over the last 9 or so days of school if you keep expecting them to immediately pivot.

I am certain you are right but curious. Honestly as curious to see if all the vaccinated teachers continue to wear their face diapers outside during drop off and pickup. Again, sure they will but it will be amusing to see.

We did get positive news just a couple minutes ago....the onion layer just above our principal called (holy crap there are a ton of layers in the school system) and she said they will allow our daughter to not wear a mask at PE and Recess for the remainder of the year so I consider it a small victory assuming it works out in practice and isnt just lip service.

I thought the kids were already allowed to not wear a mask during recess and P.E. ??

That is what we thought and it is how some schools are implementing in Plano....however...our school's principal is saying the guidance is "too vauge" and was requiring masks still (that is unless the kids were 3 to 6 feet apart thus effectively requiring them to self isolate).

Ah. Excellent!

I swear, every tiny incremental step back towards normalcy has been running uphill in quicksand it seems. This summer should show a huge turn though.

Op do you mind sharing the school. We are PISD and are going through the same thing. The rule has been changed but they aren't really adapting.

My kids have probably wore a mask longer than 30 minutes about 5 times. The insanity many of you are having to deal with feels crazy to me. Glad it is coming to an end for the rest of the state.

These people are insane. I just forwarded the EO to the board and one of the mask nazis on the board replies they are still going through 6/21. I asked her if she knows they will get fined and reported the district to Abbott's office with her response.

Maybe Abbott needs to increase the fine...make it hurt....$1K per day...?

Is the fine actually paid by the person creating the policy?

That was his point I think. The people he's talking about are stupid, insane, or both.
