I suppose it's time to get a transfer switch/interlock installed so I can actually run the generator through the panel next time. Has anyone done this, and would you recommend your electrician again?

I am interested in the same thing, I'll be following this thread. I live in Flower Mound.

My neighbor just found an electrician who also lives nearby that can do this for $600-$900.

I can find out, but he lives in Richardson. And, he is home without power and told my neighbor he can't get out to do the job until likely next week.

Ah. If he's coming that far, surely I'd get hit with a travel charge making his price not attractive. Probably good for our friends on the east side of town though.

I direct wired mine to a power cable in about 10 minutes based on directions from a neighbor electrician. Have it just plugged into a wall now that we have power but could just switch to the generator at any time. I'll rewire it back once I know the blackouts are finished. As easy as it is I'm not sure it's worth making a permanent change.
