My son and I are on a quest to find and rank the best old fashioned burgers in Texas. We live in DFW so we'll start here. Would love to compile recs from this crowd.

I'm not a big fan of burgers from chain restaurants, though I will make an exception for local chains. And for the purposes of this quest, we won't be chasing fast food burgers. That's a distinct category in my book.

For the record, my #1 is Kincaids in Fort Worth.

Thanks I'm advance for the help.

The Grape had a pretty good burger, but I just saw they closed.

I also like Fred's, Maple and Motor, and Rodeo Goat in no particular order.

Kellers is probably more fast food than you would like. Wingfields is good too.

Dairyette is a really good old fashioned burger.

Although a chain, burger house is also good. They have a great seasoning I buy for my homemade burgers. But it may be more on the fast food side for your liking.

Since you live in the LH area, what do you think of JG's Burgers? I think that's what it is called, on Greenville just south of LBJ.

JCs. They've always been solid. I wouldn't put them top tier but if you said you loved it I wouldn't call you silly. I would put them on par with Chips or the old defunct Balls Hamburgers.

Also my pick for the most hidden out of the way spot would be Coppell Deli if they're still around. Its were they 90s Cowboys would grab a burger and its as glorious a greasy dive burger as it gets.

Burger is still good - but it's no longer a greasy dive. They got a new building a couple years ago, along with the rest of that part of Coppell.

Oh interesting. I know Hans Mueller very well. But I've never gotten the burger there. I've gotta do that soon.

Whiskey Cake in Irving.

It's amazing. All farm to market fresh made ingredients.

OMG 2.0 BURGER

(Onions, Mushrooms, Goodness) crispy onion straws, melted crimini cheese, grain mustard, chile mayo, lettuce, tomato, milk bun

PS - I have had MANY of the ones listed here too - Grape, Kincaids, JC, Kellers, Dairyette, Goodfriend, Shady's, and Flaming Burger.

None of those are as good as Whiskey Cake - but to be fair I love each of them at different times.

I generally go to Maple and Motor when I get a burger craving but The Porch makes an excellent fancier burger, "the stodg" which is probably the best burger I've had

Katy Trail Icehouse. Great normal burger. Two thin griddle patties, slice of cheese on each, lettuce tomato pickles onions, mustard, toasted bun. Great fries too. Lots of great "occasional" burgers out there that I'd choose for a last meal. KT is one id eat happily every day forever.

Note: I've only been to the spin off in Plano. Don't care, that's my vote.

For something different - Kenny's Burgers, mushroom and Brie....I bit my finger tips the first time I had it because I made it to the other side so fast. Cooked medium, fries extra crispy. It's a last meal request.
