Our water usage the past two months came in 4x higher than usual. The city is sending someone out to check the meter but I probably need to prepare for a second opinion.

No leaky toilets, sprinklers, wet spots or anything else that I can find. Sprinklers have been off since October. Dallas area.

UPDATE - Mai Plumbing came out quick and fixed it even quicker. Highly recommend.

Are your sprinklers on another meter? If not you can have your sprinklers "off" and still leak badly.

You should have at least an additional box that has a valve to cutoff your sprinklers, mess around with that until you can't get any water out of your sprinklers in any zones. Sometimes they sod over the valve box which is annoying. walk around with a shovel and just bang around till you hear something hollow if this is the case and rip it up.

I've got 5 bucks it's your sprinkler system.

Most of the Flood Repair companies should have those thermal cameras that can detect water behind walls and floors.

Be VERY careful with those contractors though beyond discovery as my experience is many of them have extremely shady/predatory business practices. They love to find huge issues they can file under insurance then they milk insurance for all their worth, and you will still have a bill to pay at the end for what insurance didn't cover.

Thanks culdeus - I shut off the sprinkler valve during lunch, it's on the same meter. The meter reading went from 3/10 gallons (city reading) per minute to about 1.5/10 gallons per minute.

Thanks harge, still looking around for a contractor.

1.5/10 is a lot of water. I would think if you cut off your HVAC you should be able to hear something other than the sound of your house floating down the street.

I used American Leak Detection on my house in Fort Worth a while back. Can't remember the cost but I think it was a couple hundred bucks and they pinpointed the leak. I thought it was money well spent when it was all said and done.

We had a 20 gallon an hour leak for months before we located a guy to find it. Walked around our entire 1 acre property all day long checking the pool, sprinklers, etc and found the exact pipe that was leaking (coming from main line to the house under about 3 ft of rock/dirt). Can't recommend the guy enough. Kenneth Wade - The Leak Detective 972-285-5976. leakdetective@mail.com

We found the leak today using Accurate Leak and Line - under the kitchen. They gave a good quote but I'll probably get a few more plumbing quotes. Turned off the water at the meter yesterday.

Had the same thing happen a few years back and used accu-find for the repair. https://www.accu-findslableak.com

I'd recommend them

Probably won't even be needed. Intercept the pipe in-wall and reroute with pex through the attic.

Just had C&C leak fix a slab leak for me today, their quote was over $1K cheaper than Accurate Leak and Line's quote.

Edit: TxAg2008 is right, that's a cheaper fix than drilling into the slab, at least it was for us.

Have used Leaks LLC 3 times in 6 years for leaks. They do a very through and diligent job in locating leaks. Pricing is very fair and is a great value, especial for the quality of their work. I would not use anyone else.

Can they go back in time and fix it before someone else who already did the work?

F American Leak Detection. Had them out to check out the possibility of one near our dishwasher, they said "nope, all good." Went away for a weekend a couple of weeks later and came home to a flood and ruined wood floors originating from the exact spot I asked them to check
