I want to take my little one to the Addison Airport to watch a few planes land/take off. Where is the best place nearby to park and watch from?

There are some businesses along the east side of Westgrove, when they re closed you can sit there for a bit.

There is a sonic and a racetrack gas station on Midway at the north end of the runway.

Not sure if its open or not because of Covid but the Cavanaugh Flight museum is right there at Addison Airport and depending on age, the kiddo may like seeing it.

Do most planes take off in one direction (north/south), or is it pretty evenly split?

They always take off and land into the wind. So find the wind direction.

There's a small grassy hill directly south of the runway (on the southside of Lindberg) that is perfect for this.

Further drive but DFW has a lookout plaza that is setup just for that.

Better yet, drive to Love and park here:

You'll be pretty much on the taxiway across 13L/31R and next to the Mav's 757.

Thanks all. We went to the pocket park just across Arapaho from the airport and he loved it. We checked Flight Aware for a window with a lot of scheduled departures and saw a lot. We'll check out Love and/or DFW another time.

A lot of construction going on at the airport, so he also got to see a lot of cranes, backhoes, etc, and various fire trucks driving down Arapaho. He was in heaven. Very windy, but beautiful day.

For next time, download AirATC and he can listen to the tower/ground radios live as they land.

If you're willing to drive, Alliance usually has a lot of traffic.

You can also join DFW Spotters on FB and see where they photograph from.

Come to my back yard. I back up to a small rural airport in Denton County. Always cool planes, mostly WWII and some biplanes coming and going.
