Right, that's where the wheelchairs come from. Anything on Forest from Shepard to Skillman is a section 8/DHA failure.

I got the presentation from the OHS office.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1XlT_-6GcZLt_vZppATY134fjdgU8VfOf/view?usp=sharing

Couple things that stand out to me.

1. Site selection criteria do not consider Crime or Poverty rates (which their other "tracks" do)
2. The Greenville location has a Max number of 175 units while the Haskell location has a max of 10 units.
3. They present an option of "Pocket Communities" which I think would be much more successful and have a much smaller impact on the surrounding community, but I think they are too lazy to try and find that many sites.

I live In the moss haven neighborhood and love the school; love the neighbors but feel like we are getting boxed in by crime and pressure on the schools. This course of action won't help; in my opinion. I have already forbid ,y wife and kids to shop at Kroger at night, as I was aggressively panhandled in the store during the day. I don't know if it's good or bad that I am seeing lots of DPS stops at 7-11 at that intersection. The current section 8 apartments and homeless along Forest are frightening; to an armed 47 year old man. ASI leaving didn't help. The abortion clinic at Royal with the protestor in bloody scrubs doesn't help. Neither does the Walgreens with required but sketchy security. Add to this the proposed affordable housing and I don't see my "warm fuzzy" factor increasing.

So one potential plan is to copy the peavy container house because the powerpoint thinks it was cheap.

We just moved in back in November and love it, but feel the same pressures. The Walgreens is awful. That Kroger is awful. Time will tell how this situation unfolds and affects the neighborhood.

Shipping containers used as living units is less than an ideal solution for just about everyone. I wish architects and the collective design world would ease up on their love affair with containers.

There are much better examples that they could have and should have used as examples of well designed affordable housing.

That intersection and surrounding area has been a piece of crap for as long as I can remember. Everyone up in arms about the area going downhill because of some Section 8 must be thinking of a different hood.

How about tiny houses in backyards:

I'm sure there's lots of lots of rich Democrat-voting households throughout Preston, Park Cities, North Dallas, etc that would be open and capable of a similar project. Unless they are going to take NIMBYism literally.

I mean, it's no Highland Park, but if you think Forest & Greenville is truly "crap" then you are pretty sheltered.

If McGough pulls another "I fought it but couldn't do anything about it" then he needs to be replaced next election. I've been disappointed in his effectiveness fighting for his constituents. I think he seems like a good guy, but if he can't get things done then we deserve someone who can.

You do know who spearheaded getting the 635E project going after LtGov Dan with his lapdog Huffins scuttled it, right? AIn't nobody perfect, but Adam works EXTREMELY hard for D10 and gets TONS done.

That's the only reason I venture over to that area.

As someone who actively campaigned against McGough the first time, I am gonna say you have no idea what you are talking about. Like completely wrong.

Watch out for that place. It's owned by former yell leaders and is frequented by dudes who like to stick fingers in other dudes butts. Unrelated.

I agree. We always avoided that area when we lived in East Dallas and I say this as someone who lived next door to the Barrio and had a Section 8 (or damn close to it) apt complex in the middle of our neighborhood.

It had character though!

All three sites have been nixed and the city will be starting from scratch.
