Because the story you linked says the jury can still sentence the guy to life in prison. The same jury you said would be debating whether to lynch the guy or not. So if that's the case seems like this guy should be getting a life sentence regardless, right?
Too many to count. Up until Craig Watkins was DA, they gave probation to some for murder. Assaulting a police officer in Dallas County is automatic probation.
Even if he gets a life sentence he can be granted parole.
