I have invited a friend who lives in Dallas to this weekends game. He is new to Dallas and I thought I would reach out to some of you more experienced travelers as to what is the best/fastest route from Dallas to CS.

Thanks

It depends on where in "Dallas" he is starting from. I live in Irving and I take 35E south to Waco.

Then Bus 77/ Highway 6 to CS. The Waco exit is just south of the stadium and I believe it is exit 337.

Thanks All. He lives in Highland Park so one of the IH 45 routes will work best for him.

Whatever you do, skip Madisonville going to and from. That being said, be careful flying down OSR (old sorry road) some of the curves and bumps might catch you, and your gear, off guard.

45-OSR-39-21 is a zig zag and a good route, but he will be in 21 traffic. No use getting frustrated and causing a wreck by tailgating or passing, so I would advise just sit back and listen to some music.

45-75-21 is a good alternate if you don't want to do country roads, just be really really careful in Madisonville and OBEY the speed limit, especially on your way OUT of Madisonville. Also, that stretch between Madisonville and North Zulch is a killer road. People have died on those curves and passing when they shouldn't. Use this route going home as well. That way he will avoid the 21/45 junction that is a complete mess.

45-79-39-21 will put you going through some small towns that may pull you over if you are driving like a bat out of hell. A nice drive and pretty chill. Good chance you will have to pass a couple hay balers or trailers on 39 between Jewett and North Zulch.

I prefer the 45-OSR-39-21 route. I used to live in Normangee and my dad still ranches on 1452 so I feel like I know the area fairly well.

Just remind him to take it easy. There will be some looney toons on the road. The gas stations in Fairfield are going to be packed, as will Madisonville. Don't get gas at Exxon at 21/36, that guy is a horse's rear. Texas Burger has gone down hill so don't fall for the Nolan Ryan ads. Buc-ee's isn't worth the hassle unless it is really early morning or really late at night.

Honestly, use Waze the day of. It will find the fastest route.

If you take 35 thru Waco take exit 339 and take the loop around town.

This is my preferred route. You avoid most of the one-lane part of 21 than if you go through Madisonville. Using OSR might be quicker, but that road sucks. Pretty easy to pass people on 39, but you can just about forget it on the 8 miles or so between Buffalo and Jewett...too many hills, and the locals are driving 60 mph no matter what kind of hurry you think you're in.

Also, the top speed traps on I-45 are Wilmer-Hutchins, Ferris, and if going all the way to Madisonville, Leona; with honorable mention going to Palmer, Ennis, and Corsicana.

Don't speed on 45. With the speed limit going up to 75 when you hit DWs Adult store you can still make it to CS in 2:30 from downtown

Well no, not then. Friday can be just under or right at 3 hours if you leave early enough in the day. My point was, you can comfortably (i.e. not worry about getting a ticket), and safely go 80+ on on the stretch of I-45 where the speed limit is 75. Yes, I'll go even faster if traffic will allow, and sometimes 'the pack' (especially northbound for some reason) is doing 90+, though I would never suggest people do that.

Ah, yes you can fly when it is not packed. 2:30 is pretty darn quick too.

Have to agree... No doubt this is the best route!

Buffalo... Jewett Leon... Flynn... Normangee... North Zulch

As long as you don't get stuck behind a TRACTOR, you will SAIL!

Unless you have kids and have to do the required Buc-Ees stop, this is the worst route.

I'm still a fan of 45-14-6, if it is early in the morning. Once traffic builds up on 14, it can be a beat down. You have about 60 miles of two lane road on 14, but 6 is now four lane all the way to 14 from CS. In terms of total mileage, it is the shortest route, but you can get screwed this way if traffic is up. I also don't like to go this way after dark, as I like to avoid the 2 lane roads then (would go 45-75-21 as mentioned above).

Used to go this way while in school, and was wondering how it is now with the widening of 6. What's the speed limit on 14? I agree with your caution after dark...I avoid 39 at night, as there is no shoulder on that road.

On second thought I would encourage none of you to take 79-39-21 so I don't get stuck behind your slow asses

I always go 45-14-6. Sunday afternoons there is nobody out and I can fly. But yes, do not speed in the "dirty thirty" and also look out for the sheriff in Groesbeck and just south. He hides and loves giving tickets. Sometimes he even ventures as far south as Thornton.

Made this trip literally a 100+ times, settled on 45-14-6. Typically it's the fastest, safest and least busiest route.

45-14-6. Used to take 79 but they lowered the speed limit between Buffalo and Jewett. OSR road condition is too poor to be worth it IMO. 14 can get blocked up but at least has wide shoulders the whole way unlike OSR so you have a better chance of people letting you pass.

I'm from CS, mom still there so head that way several times a year from Frisco. 45-OSR-Normange-North Zulch-21. Never seen a cop between 45 & 21, but yes, OSR is bumpy. Better bumpy than going through Madisonville. Wish bucces didn't add 20 minutes+ to the trip.

Two thoughts on items discussed in this thread:

1) OSR may be bumpy and windy, making it difficult for passing, but you're only on it for 8-10 min anyway.

2) For the Madisonville/Buccees crowd, I'm gonna drop my hot sports opinion that Woody's is quite possibly better than Buccees.
