I have a nephew that needs a ski lesson prior to leaving For a ski trip. Any ideas?

If you can find an Oshmans around they used to have a mechanical ski slope

Is a lesson on the mountain the first day or two of vacation not an option?

I lived in Breckenridge, CO for 2 winters and there is no substitute for being on the snow. There are some really great instructors out there. If they are going to Breckenridge I could probably get you set up with one of my friends to do a private lesson for a lot cheaper than the resort charges.

Oshmans was bought out by Sports Authority about 10 years ago.

Yeah, I can't see any value in ski lessons in Texas. Even lessons on Mt. Aggie, which is probably the best experience you could have in Texas were basically worthless.

The very few times I remember ever seeing someone at Oshmans or Sun & Ski on that revolving carpet simulator, it looked like the dumbest thing ever. Pretty sure that Sun & Ski has taken them out of their stores as they reached the same conclusion.

Why does he need to know how to ski before the trip? There's no shame in ski lessons. Everyone goes skiing for the first time. I was forced into lessons on my first trip 20+ years ago, blew them off after lunch and ended up wrecking my knee and almost killing myself.

I took a lesson at Sun and Ski Sports in Grapevine before my first ski trip from a guy named Jim Chase. I also took lessons at the ski resort when I got there. I thought the lesson at Sun and Ski was worth it because it gave me a little experience before the real thing.

Taking ski lessons is like taking golf lessons. If you've never done it, you're going to suck. No way around it. And with skiing, sucking = busting ass all damn day. So take lessons. On the mountain. With a good instructor. Relative to how much ski trips cost, it's easily worth it. A day of personal lessons will last a lifetime.
