I have had a txtag for several years. In my experience, i randomly get bills in the mail from CTRMA, TXTAG, and some other company.
I have learned from calling (and from paying) that
~if the scanner doesnt read your txtag it reverts to the plate reader, which results in a paper bill.
~if you change your debit card or bank account and forget to update your txtag so it fails to replenish, your tag is silently deactivated and all your toll fees will go to CTRMA ir the other one. No discounts and heavy late fees
~it takes 30 days for any paper statement to generate, so by the time you get one youre already very close to being late
~TXtag website is antiquated and there is no smartphone app
~if you buy a new vehicle and add your paper plate to your tag, but drive a single toll after you get your metal plate without updating your plate number in the txtag site, you will get a paper bill and again it will be 30 days later, no discounts and already nearly late (i had a bill for this for a $1.20 toll from 3 months prior that was already past due and the fees all totalled nearly $55) im convinced the paper statements are purposefully sent out "late". But thats just me
For all these reasons and more, i switched to NTTA.
I simply don't want to further any support to the txtag owner financially.
NTTA has a fairly decent smartphone app. The sticker is a much higher quality in size and feel.
Ive only had the NTTA tag a couple months and I have yet to use it heavily like I was before, but so far so good.
Im sure if i broke my bank account the paper bill would come again from CTRMA.
I just feel like I am now educated enough to watch out for this; not that txtag ever taught me, i learned from punishment.
Screw txtag. NTTA has the same discounts, but in the Austin area txtag advertises itself as a "saving". They do not tell you what your other options are, or who will bill you without one, what to do if you have paper plates or that your tag is inactive even when you update your bank info, you have to go to a deep buried screen to see the activate button. You will be driving and generating paper late fees silently.
Sorry for the long winded post and disorganized paragraphs.
Ive been wanting to post my experience for a while but hadnt typed it all out before.
Thanks and SWITCH TO NTTA!!!
