The girlfriend is flying in friday and we're looking to spend some time on the water this weekend. She's been in NYC in the cold (snowed today), so we want to spend some time outside.

I'm on the east side of WRL, so Lake Ray Hubbard is the closest, however, i'm not opposed to driving if there's a good spot. I'd like to grill, swim, and just hang out. What are good spots (i'm still new to dallas)?

The water is going to be really cold if you're thinking about jumping in.

sorry, i'd be knocking out an open-water swim for training. i'd have a wetsuit on.

All I know is the last time I played golf around lake Ray Hubbard there was a pretty big aligator in the water. I've heard these exist in almost all Texas lakes but I would find it difficult to get in the water there now.

Not really any hang out spots like that on the shore of Ray Hubbard.

There is a small park in Rowlett at the intersection of CA Roan and Miller where you could hang out and grill but not sure I would go swimming in that part of the lake. Not exactly a serene hang out spot either.

I don't know anything about Joe Pool Lake.

Collin Park Marina at Lake Lavon might not be too bad for you. I think they at least have some areas to hang out by the shore.

Lake Ray Roberts is a drive but the state park up there is pretty nice.

i think the Dalrock area of WRL might be possible.

I've always like Lavon... not the prettiest lake around, but it's never crowded and they have good facilities..........

Lynn Creek Park, on the north side of Joe Pool has a LOT of camping/parking/picnic areas, some with sandy beaches nearby. It's a big hot-spot for people who don't spend a lot of time around water, so the crowds can be interesting, but I doubt it's too crowded right now.

Really a pretty pleasant location if it's not too crowded.

Hidden Cove park on Lake Lewisville off 720 west of Frisco is a nice little park.

Westlake/Oakland Park near Lake Dallas isn't too bad either if you want to bbq and watch the party boating.

As other posters have said, Lake Ray Roberts is probably one of the prettier lakes in the extended area.

yep, been convenient for training and a pretty quick drive to downtown for work. once Katie moves down in June, we'll find a place somewhere in the same area most likely.
