I have a friend coming in from Chicago and staying in Plano. I want to take her to a good mexican restaurant but don't know that area well. Any suggestions? Preferably no chain places like Pappasitos.

Casa Milagro (just south of Plano in Richardson). Located at intersection of Plano Rd. and Campbell. Or, you could try Desperado's at Jupiter and Campbell. Both are solid choices!

Aparicio's is fantastic. Great breakfast too, opens at like 6:30.

Do yourself a favor and drive to Cyclone Anaya's in Addison. It's off Beltline and Montfort. All the customers and friends I have taken to that place really like it.

Ok, so we went to Casa Milagro since it was recommended twice. It was great. Good food and good margaritas that were only $6!

Love Casa Milagro. Richardson has quickly become a great Mixican food hotbed.

Milagro
Luna
Amigos
Dos Charos
Chile Gordos

All located in about a 5 mile radius.

All of Texas is a Mexican food hotbed. They are like banks or gas stations....on damn near every corner. You should drive through Addison. Every single block has a Mexican food establishment.

Blue Goose
Gloria's
Cyclone Anaya's
El Fenix
Manny's
Cantina Laredo
Taco Diner
On the Border
Mena's

Every place you mentioned is a chain. I guess I meant that Richardson had a lot of places of it's own that are really good.
I guess you could strike Luna off the list but the one on Lookout and Jupiter is the original.

You need to do a little research there buddy.

Nothing he said was wrong.... they are all chains in Addison.

Or at least half of them.

I'm 99% sure that 3 or 4 of the Richardson restaurants he mentioned above are chains (aka having multiple locations). Only 1 or 2 of those have a single location.

Only Luna

So the other Dos Charros locations in Rowlett, McKinney, and Wylie are different?

And the other Chili Gordos in Garland?

Luna obviously has other locations.

Honestly, it doesn't matter to me if they are small chains or not. All I care about is food quality and atmosphere and I would put Gloria's and Cyclone Anaya's ahead of any of the other restaurants mentioned in this thread. Casa Milagro is pretty good too.

I'm going to run away quickly after this comment, but I also happen to like El Fenix. Maybe it isn't knock your socks off amazing Tex Mex, but they are consistent. I've been eating there my whole life and have never had a bad experience and the food quality has never suffered.

I guess you're right. The originals are all in Richardson though and none of the originals you mentioned hail from Addison.

I hadn't realized all those places had expanded.
