How bad is the commute from Southlake to the respective CBDs? I'm considering a job search in DFW and like what I've heard about Carroll ISD schools.

Easier to get to downtown Ft. Worth than downtown Dallas as you are going against traffic.

There are a lot of small business owners in Southlake with a lot of money. I live in Dallas and work in Southlake. Im a real estate developer. We develop all over the country though so we can actually office anywhere.

Google Maps says about 45 minutes in traffic to downtown Ft Worth, 1 hour & 10 minutes to downtown Dallas in traffic. Is that accurate in the experience of Texags folks?

fort worth all day long my friend. i live in southlake and office there as well. the knock against dallas commute only gets worse w/ the DFW connector construction starting up for next 5-6 years. fort worth is a much easier drive during peak commute hours.

The corporate base is pretty spread out in DFW so there is a good chance that you would not be working in either downtown area. Las Colinas, Plano, and north Dallas all have pretty big concentrations of corporations in addition to numerous other areas. The good thing about Southlake is that you can pretty much commute to anywhere in DFW if you can stomach up to an hour commute.

And for what it is worth downtown Fort Worth is much nicer than downtown Dallas if that means anything to you...

I drive from Bedford to downtown Dallas every day. Save for one short area that always slows up, the drive isn't bad at all. Coming home is a little worse, but still not awful.

my wife drives to Uptown in Dallas - on north side of Downtown Dallas everyday.

If you leave between 7:15 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. expect a 45 minute commute. It takes between 10 minutes and 20 minutes to get out of Southlake to the north entrance of DFW Airport on S.H. 114

The Southlake to FW commute also has its challenges. First of all if you go SH 114 to SH 121, to SH 183, to downtown, you still have the issue of getting out of Southlake to SH 121. Then where SH 121 and SH 183 merge you usually have slow traffic. If you go SH 114 West to SH 170 and then I-35W, you have a lot of stop lights until you get to I-35W. Also I-35W both north and south are pretty bad in the morning and afternoon.

If you can live Southlake prior to 7:00 a.m., it drops off usually 15 minutes in commuting time.

Southlake Ag - you can also go the opposite direction on 1709 away from 114 and take precinct line down to Davis which runs into 820 / 121 and saves a ton of time away from the funnel. If i could choose my commute, I'd take FW commute any day over Dallas.

Buck - The schools in Coppell are just as good and the commute to Dallas is much easier.

Mooch98: I realize Southlake doesn't have a monopoly on good schools in the area. I'm so early in this thought process, that I'm just getting broad, ballpark ideas on commute times. We'd look at other areas as well. I haven't even sent out a single resume yet. I just noticed that the DFW area has alot of good schools, and (in a normal economy) lots of jobs for people like me. Southlake gets alot of exposure around the state because of its football program.

Tejas;

I've gone that way before and sometimes the traffic on Davis is a killer.

I'm sure some of them are just as good, but as a group, there not. Look at the TAK tests.

And then he would have to drive to either Southlake or Lewisville, or Dallas to do any decent shopping.

Southlake Ag - you are correct, but if you get lucky it sure moves I'm thankful my commute is 1.5 miles from my house to the office.
