I'm looking to switch electricity providers and Gexa has decent prices. Are there any hidden charges that I should know about with them?

I don't remember anything about their hidden charges, but their customer service was a nightmare. Switched off of them and won't go back, don't care what the price is.

I used them for a couple years about 1.5 years ago. They were always the cheapest and kept their monthly rates low. However, 1.5 years or so ago, they started jacking up there rates and charging higher then even txu rates. I've read many a story where people saw their rate go up 40-50% over the course of a couple months. I went from about 10 cents to 19 cents a kwh in about 2 months.

I'd stay away.

I would only do them if you do a locked rate, as stated my rate went from 9 to 24 kwh during 3-4 months of deciding against doing a fixed rate again

I just switched to them and the rates seem pretty straightforward - moreso than the last company I used. I would recommend if you can lock in a fixed.

I haven't used all providers obviously, but I would say customer service is not going to be the best with any of them.

Pretty cheap. Just keep up with when your locked rate plan expires and call them before it does to renew.

My only gripe with them is that you either pay them a $4.95 fee to pay online through their service, pay via PayPal at least 4 days in advance. I assume that you can pay through your bank's bill pay...

I prefer to always pay my bills on the vendor's site, but I go PayPal with Gexa in lieu of paying the fee.

Agreed with Jennlo. You have to watch when your lock expires with them as they will raise their rates w/o any notice if not renewed.

Bad customer service? Have you ever been with TXU? There is no way they could be worse!

Try Amigo if you want bad service. Can't wait until spring so we can switch. I really hate this whole deregulation business. All it does is add another third party to the equation and all that third party does is send out the bills.

What exactly are ya'll calling the customer service for? If my electricity goes out I call Oncor. I've had Reliant for the last 4 years, but I've never had the need to call them for customer service.

Bill complaint. Amigo double billed us one month. I think they have one customer service rep. as the line was always busy. It took two letters and umpteen emails, as well as persistent calling to get it straightened out. After a lot of frustration dealing with this, we decided to switch as soon as the contract is up next spring.

I just quite Gexa.I hated that 5 dollar charge for paying online.

I just signed up for a fixed rate plan with StarTex at 10.2c per kw.

So far from dealing with their customer service, it seems pretty good.

Anyone have any dealings with StakTex?

I like Gexa now that I have a fixed rate. It's cheap and pay with CC (recurring bill pay) with no fee.

I agree with others. I have a locked rate now which is autopaid with my CC. So I get AA miles for both the electricy used plus for using my Amex.

However at one point my rate went from 12 to 19 with no warning as my contract had expired. They will not warn you. I went a few months without noticing so keep an eye out.

Just switched from Gexa to Champion a couple months ago, lowest rate there was, didn't realize Champion doesn't have an autopay, or an option to pay with a debit/credit card, you have to ACH out of your bank account manually each month or write a check. I'm an idiot for not researching more, but who doesn't have autopay these days???

Just got my first full-month bill from Gexa. $49. Works for me.

This is me exactly. Switch from TXU to Champion last month and got in at $0.089 kw/h. Went to pay yesterday and couldn't figure out how to pay with a credit card. Pretty crazy, but doesn't both me as long as the rates are really low.

I switched from GEXA to Star Tex last year when my variable rates shot up from around .11 to over .17 over night. I locked in a 3 year deal and have been satisfied.....decent customer service, convenient online debit/credit payment option.
