I know this has been debated on here many times, but I can't seem to find the threads.

But I was wondering what your thoughts on a good utility company were?

I have Gexa locked in at 11.9c, but I can get out of it if I want.

any thoughts?

Instead of just looking at the lowest price possible, can we try something different.

Stick with me here, I want to get some information prior to making a suggestion. These are some of the questions I ask my clients prior to making a recommendation.

What type of building are you living in? Rent or own? What is the total square footage?

What was the highest bill you've paid in the last 24months? in kWh, dollars and what month?

What is your baseline energy use in kWh? (find this by taking out the peak heating and cooling months)

How long have you been there and how long do you plan on staying?

How many people are living there?

What type of appliances and HVAC system are you using? All electric or some gas appliances?

All things being equal would you prefer to use renewable electricity sources than coal fired? yes, no, doesn't matter, price is the only consideration?

I second the original question. In particular, any bad experiences with Cirro or Direct Energy?

I am in a contract, but since they have a stipulation for if move residencies that would void my contract ( I don't think they even service the area I'm moving too).

1. I will be living in an apt, renting, approx 625 sp ft

2. Highest bill I've paid was oddly enough over the winter. $130, 574 kWh, Dec

3. I would guess somewhere around ~495kWh

4. I will be there for atleast a year starting in March.

5. I will be living by myself

6. All equipment is Electric.

7. Doesn't matter.

I like the questions, but I'm not sure how accurate they will be since, I am looking to switch providers for my new place.

My new place is a little bigger and includes a washer/dryer in it, so I would assume I would be using a little more electricty.

Anyways, hopefully you can still make a good rec.

Thanks

PS sorry for the angry face, chose the wrong icon.

Nope. I run my own sustainability consulting firm for commercial and residential properties. The questions are geared to find out what is the best course of action and getting to what the client really wants. Every home is different and everyone has different habits.

I know its a little overkill.

????? did that include the previous month's charges? @ $.119 x 574kWh you should be around $68.00 not $130. Look into that, they could have a billing error.

As far as a recommendation goes, short answer is $.119 is a decent rate with no strings attached but you can do better if price is the only concern. I am not a huge fan of Gexa, heard some bad things about customer service. I am sure you've already researched
www.powertochoose.com right?

If you are looking to cut consumption, there are a number of things to look at, I don't have time to discuss all of them here, give me a call and I can walk you through some easy and inexpensive ways to reduce your use. 214-334-4895 or show up at the Aggie round table on Wednesday mornings at Telos Fitness in Addison. I am usually there in the mornings.

If you are looking for customer service, I've never had any problems with Green Mountian or Reliant. TXU pisses me off because they throw the meter locks on the ground in my neighborhood on a month basis other than that they are fine.

um that would be Oncor that handles the meters not TXU big difference.

I would recommend something like the Reliant plan or I think TXU has a product that rides the Natl gas marktet lowest its even been in a long time. My two cents.

Thanks for the info Green Ag.

That highest price, wasn't an error, that was before I had my locked in rate. I had been using the variable rate and I believe it was somewhere around 19c per kWh when I got that bill.

Does anyone have history with companies price matching offers from other energy providers. Currently have Reliant, and want to stay but my rate is jumping .02 cents higher than offers from Gexa or Direct.

I wonder if they match, if you call and ask for helping staying with the original company.
