We took the pup to her first training class with the All Breed Obedience Training Club (http://www.abotc.com/) on Wednesday night and were really pleased.

Thanks to the Ags who recommended this back a few months ago!

Our beginners class had about six dogs in it with two instructors - one mostly talking and demonstrating, the other observing and moving to to help individuals when needed. We talked about the basics of training one's dog and proceeded to work on sit, stay, heel, and down during the one hour class.

At $35 for eight weeks ($75 for non-rescued dogs), I think we have gotten a great deal and will learn a lot! The dogs in the more advanced classes seemed like an extremely well-trained lot and I hope we can continue this with our pup so she can be like them one day!

On another note - NEVER ever go to Man's (worst) friend - their focus is on sales and yes, sure some people have had success, but comparing notes w/ most, same experience as us.

Spent $1000 on lifetime obedience training. Yes stubborn yorkie (yes admitted we have a freakin yap lap dog - that stays inside - he is ok though - obviously I am more housebroken and probably just bitter in general, but I digress....).

All we wanted the dog not to do was not hit (with an S) and all they taught him how to do was 'sit'. We were very specific and followed their return home instructions to the letter. And followups were supposed to be with original trainer, but she was always 'unavailable' - anyway had to get that out, now I feel better (still $1000 poorer)

Oh and Progressive auto insurance is horrible on claims, but will post that later.....Bah Humbug!!!

Oh, my 6 year old son named the dog Reveille, so he does a redeeming quality

My wife took Reveille to our vet (Dr. Bowe - an Aggie in the Colony - we live in Dallas, he is worth drive) and worked out awesome (1week vs 2weeks, $250 - maybe he just needed a refresher course)...will post where when she wakes....

Hmmm, spent a total of $500/lb on the dog, after adding cost of hip surgery when Reveille tried to fly, but that is another story.

Well if the wifey is ok w/ an artificial Christmas tree, maybe she will buy off on an 'artificial' dog....concrete perhaps?
And son still gets to name it......
Self-torture - this is what I get for waking in the middle of the night...........

There are actually MANY dog training groups that meet there so you'll want to be more specific when mentioning it to people. Our schutzhund group meets there one day a week (as does the other schutzhund group in the area). I'd like to know what people are thinking when they drive by and see us training as a dog launches itself into a bite...

I thought

I meant in general conversation, not necessarily on this thread.

I just googled "schutzhund" because I had no idea what that was - cool stuff!
