That Academy is no longer there, nor is the old two story on on Burnet Road. Whatever the building for the one near Hancock Shopping Center was supposed to be, it was definitely the least spacious sporting goods store I've seen.

Max was cheap because of the business. When it first started, it was just a military surplus store, and how many of those have been what we considered "nice" stores?

Academy Sports & Outdoors has come a long way since their days as Academy Surplus.
