Or are there a ton of "student driver" cars around town these days?

What's the deal with that? Is there a boom in consultant drivers, or is it some sort of ironic bumper sticker? But I feel like I see 5 a day.

There's been several news stories about it. They aren't all actually student drivers (actually most aren't). It's typically adult drivers, sometimes from other countries, that think a student driver sticker will make you more likely to be patient with them.

In some counties they have to use a tag or sign for a specified period while they are in driver training or in a provisional period and I would guess they are just used to it. I'm glad they're letting me know who to watch out for, just like those with paper tags on older used cars.

In my area, most of the Indian ladies put them on their cars.

My Indian neighbor explained to me that many of them did not drive back home, or in some of the area in the US, when they first came to the country (more dense cities like San Fran, etc).

They know they're not experienced (ie. good) drivers yet, so they put that on their vehicle to, in his words, 'gain some understanding from other drivers'.

Long story short, they're bad drivers and think people wont get mad at them with the Student Driver sticker.

I saw a "Student Driver" sticker a few months ago on a car with an old disabled person driving. Haha. You can easily buy those stickers off of Amazon for cheap.

Having new drivers have a tag for 12-24 months is a good idea.
