The legislature lied to its citizens, what's new, saying lottery funds would be dedicated to schools. They immediately after passed directed the money to the general fund to spend on stupid sheet like they always do.

How about a higher sales tax? That way even illegals are contributing instead of just being a money suck.

Or a tax on remittances sent to their country of origin? Legal resident aliens wouldn't need to worry about the tax.

Tennessee doesn't have an income tax and sports some of the lowest property taxes in the nation. There's either some serious fraud going on in our state grovernment or massive social services but sumptn is up.
The state government doesnt levy any property taxes. School districts and municipalities are the ones eating people alive. No one seems to care when its time to vote for school board- we keep letting teachers unions pick the people who levy these taxes. You likely have a bond election in your ISD this week that will increase your taxes, just wait and see how many people actually vote.

It's just another $100 in taxes. well, when you pass multiple bonds every year, that $100 becomes $2000 really quickly.

I'm in NW Austin and our appraisal went up $86k. Land value stayed same, house went up about 17.5%. Completely random - most houses on our street went down, some stayed the same and one other house went up a grand total of $6k. I'll be protesting (again) - there is no objective data that supports such an increase.

Update: as soon as I filed my protest, TCAD offered to reduce the appraised value by $76k (so a $10k increase over the prior year). I requested an informal hearing and for the first 10-15 minutes the TCAD guy couldn't offer any explanation as to why ours increased. He finally "figured it out" when he noticed we had a pool. A pool that was already installed when we moved into the house in 2006. TCAD guy said they changed the way they valued pools, and that was responsible for the increase. Just a total clown show.

The proposed taxes are now available at travistaxes.com. I know this isn't the final number, but aren't they generally pretty close to what the actual bill will be? Our proposed tax total is 21% higher ($2,300) more than our tax bill for last year (on a homestead-exempted house).

We spend billions on illegals annually as a country. I'm glad Abbott is asking for health costs for illegals in this state. We also need the costs for education, incarceration, and insurance (uninsured motorist) as well.
