Yet the sips still think Austin is the greatest college town in the country. Far from it. Lots of recruits , particularly from small to mid-sized towns don't want anything to do with it or the vagrants, drugs, and crime. Let them keep touting "Keep Austin Weird". It hurts them more than it helps them.

I have several friends that graduated from tu. They refuse to let their daughters go to school there because how bad Austin has become and parents don't like how liberal school has swung.

A good example of how not to start a thread.

And it's not just Austin, I would say the same about Houston, Dallas, and SA as well. Though Austin supposedly has the lowest morale among their law enforcement due to the extreme positions taken by their lawmakers.

But Austin is going to become more and more of a liability for the sips moving forward. Not only are they landlocked because of the city, but the crime has gotten much worse and the city does nothing about it. Whatever 'fun' aspects of the city and culture that made it unique are getting overtaken by the bad. The closest example in the SEC is probably South Carolina, landlocked in the downtown capital of Columbia where they're forced to build facilities in other areas away from campus and not in the nicest of areas.

But most SEC towns are at least reasonably safe places to be.

Even Vandy has an advantage there, despite being landlocked in a big city, because Nashville is actually a very clean and safe city for its size. The last time I was there, I felt safer walking through their downtown at night than I ever have in Houston, Austin, SA, Dallas, etc. I think Nashville could become the destination spot for the SEC once the Titans new indoor stadium is built.

I had an incident and called 911. The dispatcher said that she didn't have anyone available. I calmly said, "OK, I will handle it" (and I did). She asked if I was armed and I said "of course". When the cops finally showed they started giving ME grief that I "can't just go around threating to shoot people". I said it wasn't a threat it was a statement and that I gave them first dibbs but they said they were too busy.

Have to disagree with this. Work with underwriters who insure high value construction and Nashville has a pathetic crime score. You may have felt safe, but Nashville crime is far worse than Austin and is a top ranking city for crime.
