My son is 9 and wants to do a basketball league

It will be his first season. Does anyone have recommendation?

We live south of the domain just north of 183. Doesn't have to be right next to us but I don't want to drive south of the river or to Georgetown

Thanks!

Our son has been playing in leagues in the Cedar Park/ Leander area for 5 years. Not sure if that's too far for you. Check out out the PAC, Magic, or i9 leagues. i9 is more for beginners. Just depends on what you are looking for.

i9 basketball is ok...and might be worth it, just to see if he likes it. It was awesome for sports for my boys when they were young, because practice and games are all at the same time, and you knock it out once a week. They'll practice on one side of the court for 45 minutes, and then play a game for 45 minutes. No practice during the week. It's definitely beginner level, for fun.

My son played at the YMCA when he was that age, and had a blast for a couple seasons. It's pretty inexpensive, and really cheap if you're a member (I think you just guy a jersey).

If you want a little better coaching/instruction, Magic is a good suggestion. Also, Centex Attack is a lower level select program at The Pac off 183 (Leander), but it has some rec leagues. Carmelo runs the place, and he's a good dude. It's usually practice once a week and games once a week.

Also, Town and Country has basketball leagues. My sons never played in it, but some friends did, and they always enjoyed it. I know their soccer league was run well.

Upwards faith programs can be one to look at. It has some faith embedded but not overwhelming. Opening prayers and some lessons. But great starter league and sounds like I9 is similar. Upwards are usually sponsored by a church

Also I can recommend Town & Country as well. One of the best leagues when we were playing 10-15 years ago.

Back in the 90's my son got half off his tuition at a private Christian school for playing basketball in 5th and 6th grades...they never actually stated that, but it sure wasn't because of his academics.

The YMCA has a beginners "camp" in September on T/Th that I'm going to put him in. Then sign him up for a winter league somewhere.

Thanks for all the suggestions!

Westlake and Lake Travis (LTYA) also have leagues - find the one closest to you, and its pretty good. If you are looking for a more low-key, less intensive route - go I9. If you want an intense approach, you can try out for one of the AAU teams within the city.
