We see the smoke, looks like quite a fire going, it looks about near Parmer and Whitestone. Anybody have any info?

Just drove past there - didn't look good.

Looks like it's still burning and jumped to the north side of 1431. I just drove E down 272 @ Ronald Reagan, the road to the south of the Caballo Ranch neighborhood. Cedar Park PD was blocking the road on the E side of the back entrance to the neighborhood. Lots of smoke and ash - you can see the red glow from the fire in the brush to the south.

Brent Campbell sent this to me on Facebook. He says the apartment seen here is now actively burning.

50 acres & 60% contained as of about 6:30 AM this morning.

I expect more fires just like 2011/2012, especially with our large homeless population out cooking in the woods all hours of the day & night.

I don't see a lot of smoke or any really from our house. We're about a mile out but got a good view over into brushy creek.

A few of the suburban ninja trails are forever changed. Agree that I've never seen an encampment out there.

Walnut, on the other hand, has encampments all over the place. I routinely come up on somewhat contained fires out there while riding at night. Only a matter of time before a fire breaks out there.

I ride SN too and I'm afraid of how some of those amazing trails are going to be after this.

pictures and drone videos are starting to come out. the burn area is not nearly as bad as speculated...the trail that is. Definitely not blind to the fact that a bunch of people in the apartments lost everything. that said, i'll definitely alter some stuff...and who knows what they bulldozed down to create the fire breaks and such.

The bull dozed area is what I'm hearing has most impact on trail.

The paved mixed use path being built along the creek will also impact that trail system to some degree, and more people will be out there.

The fire was definitely concerning for a bit, I was really worried the winds were going to blow embers over to north side of 1431 and there was a fair amount of wooded areas that could have been burned, all mixed in with housing. I did hear some embers jumped Parmer and set vegetation on fire around HEB.

I trust in AJ to figure out a good way to handle the trail system with the paved trail addition. Probably going to end up like Walnut.

Looks like AJ and crew have cleared most, if not all, the burn area. I'm going to head out there this weekend to run and see the damage.

Ran this morning. Fire damage is mostly confined to the deadwood loop (now aptly named), though the damage does stretch outside that. The boat loop is 98% fine, but there's a spot that is blocked from bulldozing. There's a temporary? re-route, but its easy to miss. I took a bunch of pictures and some video I'll post later. With the fire and bulldozing, I won't be surprised if we actually end up with more trail than before. Honestly, I was expecting a lot worse. The paved path that's going in will do way more damage to the trail than this fire.

All that said, I really feel for those who lived in the apartments. It's really sad to see what's left of that building.

We nearly crossed paths this morning. I got a late start and didn't get over to res horn until like 0830.

It was definitely weird/different running through there. I hope we get some easy and slow rain before the first big storm. That top few inches is just going to run into the creek if we get some intense down pours before the grass and weeds have a chance to pop back up.

And agreed, I think deadwood will come out of this with much more trail now that's it's cleared out.
