We are leaning towards taking the family to Kalahari Round Rock Memorial Day weekend.

We haven't been before. Anyone have any advice/do's/don't do's? Any deals?

I'll probably sneak away for a round at Forest Creek since it's close to the resort.

TIA

We went last year and the kids had a blast.

1. If you can swing it I'd grab a cabana… that was clutch for the outdoor pool.
2. The indoor pool is a **** show, but it's where all the slides are. You can usually post up and let the kids run around if they are old enough though.
3. They literally don't check coolers anywhere. So bring your own booze anywhere and everywhere.
4. Most of the food options are meh. Although I did enjoy the Mexican restaurant facing the basketball hoop pool. I also made friends with the waitress and tipped her well and she took good care of us.
5. If you can find a way to never go to the arcade that would be ideal. It's impossible to miss though.

Thanks, jah003.

Little man is pushing 12 months - one reason why the wife wants to do an indoor park. We wouldn't spend too much time at the outdoor park.

The Tom Foolery arcade doesn't appear to have many activities for the 3 year old to enjoy, so I don't expect us to spend much time there either.

All I cared about is a lazy river. And I will pack plenty of alcohol - good to know.

There is a tiny ass lazy river for tiny kids in the indoor park and a much bigger one for adults… it is mostly outside though if I remember correctly.

I threw our alcohol in an insulated pool bag and nobody said anything or checked. I think if you rolled a full on cooler through there they may say something lol.

The pizza place is decent and the piano bar is great on weekend nights depending on who is playing...if you can leave the kids in the room. I live like 2 minutes from the place so if you want to know something about the area just speak up.

Check in takes forever. Approximately less than four people in front of me and took over 30 minutes.

Get there early on day 1 and stay late on last day. You can get wrist bands even if you haven't checked in or already checked out.
Probably only applies to older kids that aren't on a nap schedule but it can really maximize the time if you just throw your stuff in the car.

No kidding.

Pro tip: Do what we did and go in Jan or Feb...take the kiddo out of school for Friday, so you get there Thurs night. Friday was virtually empty and my kid (and friend) went from slide to slide without a wait. Saturday was double the Friday attendance of course, but still nothing like what I would expect this summer and for sure Mem Day weekend.

Oh, and the rates were not bad then either. Sure, we didn't have access to the outside but it didnt matter. Restaurants were like 20% of occupancy...nice.

But for the OP, go ahead and go, it will be fun, the place is really nice. Better than what I expected.

Both my little guys have birthdays in December and January. Did the check in on Friday, no lines, water park until 10, no lines. Waterpark all day Saturday, no lines. Left late Sunday afternoon, no lines. The kids had a blast and did every ride they wanted to do over and over. The hotel was also decorated for the holidays and was really nice. We live about 10 minutes from the place and really enjoy it.

Place is a complete ****e show. Unless you are a fan of hordes of the unwashed masses or just down for punishment, I would avoid. The kids will obviously like it, but it's a complete beat down for the parents. I couldn't get out of there fast enough. And it's pricey as hell. As others said, keep your kids out of the arcade. Mine racked up like $300 on the arm bands before we realized how expensive it was as they can charge to the room using them. My fault for allowing the band charging option but I was thinking pool snacks not the arcade and we told them they could go there and charge credits not first checking how overpriced it is.

If you're looking for better restaurant options, Tony C's and Cork and Barrel are across the highway.

Y'all got me thinking about trying to convince the wife to go somewhere else!!

I don't like large crowds!

Thanks again for all the tips!

FYI I drove by yesterday on the way to CS and from my car I could not see a single parking space. And that is just a regular summer weekend.

I would not take a 1 and 3 year old to any park. I raised kids and it starts to make sense when the youngest is 5-6. At those ages one of you are confined to infant care. So only one parent at a time can do much. But it's your decision

We did that last year but did a Tuesday/Wednesday. It was awesome. Our kids never had to wait in line for anything. By dinner time on the second day they were worn out and wanted to go home. It was perfect.

Another option is an evening during the school year. $30 after 5. Wasn't too crowded and got to ride a lot. It was so fun.

We live about 15 mins away from the resort. It's an absolute blast! We go every January for my kids birthday. Go between Monday and Thursday and you'll have the place to your self.

It's not a beat down at all for parents. Tom Foolery is a great time too. If you can't have fun at Kalahari then I don't know what to tell you. Have a giant cocktail and have a blast with your kids!

Just about everyone that says on thread it not bad if….

Winter visit, weekdays, quick night discount. Now try Memorial weekend and get back to us. That is what OP is targeting

I would avoid Kalahari on any holidays. But that's like going to Disney World on Memorial Day weekend. I would go another weekend or during the week my friend. Especially with very little ones, it's more relaxing.

Go to a lake house or cabin on Memorial Day weekend

Another option. Lost pines. Has lazy river, golf, nice hotel and I bet they offer baby sitting

We went one day quick trip. Did the lazy river, had a decent meal, it is still a hotel but higher end. Did not do the other activities but it was getting good reviews.

If you want alternatives… Typhoon Texas is actually pretty damn fun. We have summer passes and go maybe 25-30 times a summer. They've got areas for all ages. My wife and I stay with the 3 year old, but the 8 year old runs off and does her own thing. Also… the rides are pretty fun for adults and the lines are usually pretty short.

We took our 5 year old son of of school today and went for the day. It was great. Not busy at all. He loved it. Got some free passes from our neighbor.

Well, we decided to avoid the crowds and kept it somewhat local.

My wife is from Weimar and the in-laws live in La Grange, so we spend a lot of time out there. We ended up going to the Blue Bell Water Park in Brenham. Great place for littles and there weren't too many people there.

We will attempt Kalahri during the slow season.

Appreciate all the great feedback!

We went to Enchanted Rock then got a cabin outside Fredericksburg.

Highly recommend it for future Memorial Days. This might become a tradition for us.
