Considering there are towering condos around it it is still the same on the inside. The patrons are all mixed now. More urban Cowboys now or as Hank Williams Jr sang

I have not eaten there in a while though. Just have stopped in at lunch on a weekend for a beer.

Don't take the dance lessons even if you're tempted…the lady that teaches them spends more time saying crappy jokes than teaching.

I go there once a year for whatever reason and we just watch and laugh at how terrible she is

That's awesome. The Spoke sticks out like a sore thumb now with all of the new development around there, but good to see they are sticking to their roots. I need to stop by and help support the cause. It's been a while since we've been there.

They are sticking to their roots. It's a run-down honkytonk in the middle of high-rise hoity toity.

That being said, Austin is a hell of a lot more weird than it was in my relative youth. Boys dancing with boys on the Broken Spoke dance floor? Some dude in flashing glasses and a sparkly jacket doing a floor show dance to Secret Agent Man? ... I need another beer ...

Always thought it was funny back in the late 80's and early 90's when I would call over to see who was playing the old guy would answer the phone "Broke Spoke"
