Sad to hear as I used to listen to that show all the time but man he sure went all Dave Letterman once they gave him a run on the AM. In short, Trump broke him in a bad way.

He's been insufferable for years. He's a pompous ass

I heard him say this twice.

"Trump tax cuts only helped the rich."

and both times, the very next sentence...

"I can't believe that they limited my real estate tax write off to $10k."

Dudly used to be great back in the day. The day he got caught mastubating by the dude cleaning his pool was epic. That was in the 90s. Last time he was funny.

I understand most people hate him but he was around forever and always better than 99% of what else was on the radio. My parents were listening to him in the late 80s/early 90s. I always got laughs from him. You can officially put the nail in Austin radio now I guess.

He used to be good and really funny but that was a good while ago. His success made him a huge ***** and he was became very holier than thou.

Hell he would play clips of his old radio stuff from decades ago to show how long he's been in the business.

Well I might actually listen to KLBJ again. I know local biz owners that wouldn't advertise on KLBJ because of him. Quite a mean spirited, divisive leftist.

Always listened on my 20 minute commute into the office (pre-COVID work from home) and 20 minutes was usually enough. He was always "interesting" and did have some really funny stories but I liked the group dynamic of the show more than just Dale. A few years ago I followed him on Twitter for a while but if you thought he was out there on the radio you ain't seen nothin. Quickly ended that "follow".

Bob seems like a good dude but when he had to host without Dale it was rough. Been the #2 for so long must be hard to move to #1. Will be interesting what they do in that time slot. Austin radio bites for the most part. I grew up on Stevens and Pruitt in Houston on KLOL so loved these types of radio jocks. Now you couldn't get away with anything those guys did back then.

I moved to Austin after graduating from A&M in 1995, and have been here ever since. Never had a commute longer than 20 minutes, and went through phases were I was all music, or all sports talk radio, but at various times over the past 26 years I would tune in to KLBJ for the morning drive. Like the poster above it was always 10-20 minutes snippets at most, and I generally found them engaging and entertaining - agreed with some of the criticisms of Dudley but generally something entertaining to listen to. So Dale and Bob were like Austin landmarks to me just based on how long they've been around, and longevity isn't easy in any area of the entertainment field. I liked Matt's addition and he must have been there 15+ years.

Matt Bearden was the only redeemable part of the show I thought.

Moved here in 2001 and basically found the show right away. Love 'em or hate 'em it's more of "old Austin" dying off.

Ha! Didn't but I remember those! Also remember the Uncle Waldo skits and something about a "point spread" where they measured the distance between a lady's nipples. Juvenile but hilarious at the time.

Lanny the Traffic guy was cool. S&P were OK, went to one of their Christmas parties. hated Moby and that dumb Jon Landers. Mr. Leonard, etc "Zoos". Real stoopid.

I'll never forget, Jimmy Page was playing at the Summit, and Moby said he was interviewing him later before the show and needed listeners to call and help him with questions to ask because he "really didn't know much about Page". Idiot. Him and his whole act, along with his "Hawaiian shirt Friday" schtick.

Page did a great show, Sept '88.

Longtime listener but I really started to tune out in the mid 00's when Dale got really into politics & then got married. If I wanted to hear people b*tch about the president & talk about their wives I can listen to my neighbors.

I did enjoy when musicians did their thing live on air.
Couple of favorites:
Archie Bell & The Drells did "Tighten Up"
The Gourds performed "Gin & Juice"

Both of these were amazing... anyone else remember those?

Matt is returning to host with Bob and Chuy. Hopefully Dale starts a podcast at some point - I think he is genuine and likable - been a fan for many years.

Dale often talked about how the new ownership was far right wing and I'm sure he had a big contract which sealed the deal. His recent mental health issues I'm sure didn't help. I've bet both Dale and Bob and they are both really nice family guys.

I recently discovered Jeff Ward has a daily podcast.

Dudley and Bob had a good dynamic together, but each on their own I can't take much of it. Dale always interjecting in how whatever topic or musician relates to him and hijacks the convo. Bob I can really try to like but he can't carry the show.

When Dale is not always being about Dale, it was a good show.

Bo & Jim - Q102 DFW and Stevens & Pruett - KLOL in Houston were good times

I'd be surprised if Chuy stuck around. His schtick only worked with Dale in my opinion. He's just too much of an intellectual light weight to stay with Matt.

I just looked at the KLBJ website and was wrong - it's Matt, Bob, and "B-doe" from 6 to 10 AM then Chuy has his own thing 10-3PM.

His mental health issues aren't recent. He's been a flaming liberal forever.

Waterloo is far from "right wing." They just don't squelch right wing commentary like most other terrestrial radio media corps do.

Ha!

Was on the Dudley & Bob morning show in '94.

Hard boiled egg competition that I lost and they gave me a Dave Matthews CD.

They saw my teacup beagle in my truck. They had me bring her in the studio and I got her to sing on the radio.

Radio personalities change like the wind. Whether you liked them or not, they had to be doing something right to be on the radio that long.

Interesting (maybe) story-
Was at a popular football coach's memorial service about 3 yrs ago, and I bumped into Ward there (this coach was an asst AD when Wade was there)…told him missed him and his show, and he was extremely polite and said thank you…
I know, stupid story….

Sad to see radio slowly going away. So much of my childhood was listening to Sammy and Bob and then Astros and Spurs games with my Dad. I even had a geezinslaws cd. Dad and I used to sit in the backyard and play catch listen to the astros. I remember delivering pizzas around lake Travis in the 90s listening to the spurs. When I was a teenager I was all Dudley and Bob and my Dad loved John Dromgoole and Jeff Ward. Cactus Pryor still had short segments on Klbj.

I guess podcasts are better in many ways but I do miss being excited to listen to these shows when they were on in real time.
