Has anybody else with AT&T been experiencing extremely slow service for the past few months? I'm in Georgetown but I've noticed it everywhere around here. It's not just my phone because my wife is experiencing it too.

Like so slow that it's difficult to load a video or a podcast a lot of the time

Not that I noticed. Full disclosure, I design fiber networks to cell sites and AT&T and T-Mobile have been building like crazy in the Austin area.

Our calls are dropping or skipping in our house nearly every day. Max of two bars since we've lived here. I live in a heavily populated area near Avery Ranch and there is no excuse for AT&T to suck so bad.

Umm.....we possibly work for same company? I am a manager in a NOC and we monitor, troubleshoot cell towers across the country for all the big cell carriers.

ATT is like a black hole in Elgin around HEB and Wal Mart

Most likely capacity related. Everyone is out and about now that WFH covid restrictions are lifted and stores and restaurants are open again. Previously people were staying home on their wifi. Now they are running around using the cellular networks.

MouthBQ is seeing the result of carriers upgrading and expanding the backhaul network and building new sites but residential neighborhoods are the hardest to get through zoning and may cost as much to build so they usually come last.

This is purely conjecture but it would also not surprise me if the carriers are not throttling throughput on 4G in areas where they have 5G to get subscribers to upgrade. And for you AT&T subscribers your "5Ge" is not 5G. Its the same 4G enhanced that the other carriers have deployed.

AT&T also likes to force their devices to "hold on" to the 5Ge channels even when there's a better channel available. They want to give the (false) impression that they have 5G where they don't. I have a client in CA that has an AT&T MetroCell running in their offices. It is an "LTE" device rather than "5Ge". Phones hang on to the outdoor 5Ge signal rather than hoping over to the LTE channel that is MUCH better. I've clocked the 5Ge outdoor downstream at about 1-2Mb vs the MetroCell running like 25-30Mb downlink standing in the same spot inside the building.

You can try turning on and off airplane mode to force the phone to rescan. Sometime that will temporarily resolve it.

I thought AT&T was bad. Then I moved to Verizon at it was worse for me, so we flipped back.

We did the same and moved to Sprint for one year and it was deplorable. Right back to ATT. ****ty customer service, but great signal most places.

My data will just randomly stop working for periods of time in central Austin, then mysteriously come back online

My service absolutely sucks in the Southpark Meadows shopping area. Works when making calls or texts, but anything else it's horrible. Been up here around Lakeline/Lakeline Mall roads, sporadic depending on the neighborhood. Couple dead spots around Harris Branch and 290.

Same on the work tablet that uses Verizon.
