Not sure how all daycares are being handled, but ours wants kids 2+ to attempt to wear a mask and were even wanting detailed information about where we would travel if we left town.

I'm not opposed to mask wearing because of concerns about breathing or what not, but it's more of the motivation behind it.

respiratory Syncytial Virus causes more deaths to children under 5 than Covid, and it has been around for a long time. But no one previously had concern about masking despite that being the science.

What changed? Is it more concern that kids will spread it to adults?

We just started our 2.5 year old in daycare. If they go to masks for the kids, we will probably just pull her out. She's there to learn social skills.

People have just straight up lost their minds. No risk considerations anymore.

It's not Covid versus RSV. It's the combination of the two.

Sure.

But what I'm asking is: RSV has been around long before COVID and there is a lot of data already showing how serious it can get (300-500 deaths per year < 5 years old).

I've never seen requests to mask kids.

I'm not sure how wise having pre-schoolers wear masks. But they have no vaccine. Seems overkill. But I understand the reason for their concern.

It's all about non-existent liability. RSV has been sadly a killer yet no masks or jumping the gun. Covid is a political ploy, end of story.

Covid is not a political ploy. Many of the responses to
It have been. I do not believe in masking children. They are already germ factories. Masking them just creates unneeded social challenges.

Ours "practices" masks for 3 and over. Like it or not (I do not) masks in some form or fashion are likely here to stay so knowing how and when to wear them is worthy of practice for us. We won't let's masks change how we live our lives. They are by no mean nazis about it. At the beginning they had "travel based" quarantines per CDC guidance at the time but now it's 3 questions yes no

1. Have you been exposed?
2. Do you have a cough or shortness of breath
3. Do you have a fever

I hope those 3 questions stay after Covid, far too many parents send their sick kids to school. With the travel questions I always gave no more information than required.

Our daughter had RSV at 7 months. Scary stuff. Diagnosed as pneumonia on second emergency room visit and finally RSV. That was a weird Christmas for our 5 year old. One of us was at the hospital 24/7 for a week after the RSV diagnosis. Daughter powered through it all connected with IVs, tubes to the nose for O2, and Santa visited on Christmas Day in the hospital. It was the real Santa.

We were lucky. Persistence saved our daughter. Just a nasty cold brought home from her 1st grade brother for the rest of us.

Wow. So sorry to hear your daughter and your family had to go through that ordeal.

But it reinforces my point… RSV has been more dangerous than COVID to kids in daycares for many years and no one thought to ask children to wear masks or anything of the sort.

Thankfully a vaccine for RSV is in the works.

I starred you because I agree. I'm saying the Government Response is a political ploy.
