We are told that the military will not provide a 21 gun salute during COVID times for a veterans funeral.
They suggested reaching out to a local veterans group but we haven't heard back.

Anyone have a contact or further information?

Who told you that? It's wrong.

When they buried my buddy back in November, he had one.

Yeah the military will provide one. My GFs grandfather was an Air Force Major and received on in Pleasanton in November.

Thanks everyone.

A neighbor was told that the military wouldn't perform the 21-gun salute and she never got a response from local veterans group. I passed along the information, but we are now past the funeral.

I guess he will finally get the 21-gun salute when he is buried at sea.

when you say 'burial at sea' - maybe that is the reason.

A 21 gun salute is performed at the burial site.

maybe they were asking for it at a funeral service like at a church - which is not the place for a 21 gun salute (more properly called a firing party)

I was apalled that they won't send a bugler out to blow taps anymore. They send a guy out with a trumpet that looks right, but plays a recording of taps. Guess what, if the guy forgets to charge the batteries, you don't get your recording played.

I was so pissed I couldn't see straight. If the Army would have told me they were sending a recording with a flunky, I would have told them nevermind. I could have found a bugler on my own and paid them to come play it. My Grampa wasn't half-assed in his commitment to the US Army when he went to Africa and Europe for 5 years straight and chased Rommell all over hell. Why is the US Army half-assed in their chance to say goodbye?

I hope you get your 21 gun salute, and I hope it is done with the honors your loved one deserves. Mine was basically given one last kick in the nuts.
