My wife, through the mommy text message chains, heard last night that folks are just showing up at Delco and getting vaccinated...first come first served and no need to be in 1A or 1B group. Not to spread rumors, but, has anyone else heard of this? Twitter and FB search yields very little.

If true I have mixed feelings. My wife and I would be pretty far down the list of people to be vaccinated and my understanding is that Delco, through Austin Public Health, is really meant for uninsured folks...however if the city is going to push vaccines just to get the numbers of vaccinated people up then I guess I'd take one...

I cant answer your question specifically, about Delco...but my sister is in the health care industry. She went to get her vaccine a couple weeks ago, and realized she was classified as 1B not 1A or something like that. She was nervous they'd reject her after she'd waited in line, but they didnt check or verify anything. She said anyone could have been in line and they'd have gotten the shot, and was pretty sure that's exactly what was happening.

Out of curiosity, what does non-insured/insured have to do with getting the Vaccine? Why would the facility prioritize one over the other?

Looks like Austin Public Health is aware of this line jumping and putting the kibosh on it. Mixed emotions if vaccine doses are really going to waste (open bottle / no arm to inject). If that's the case, though, they need to fix their system so no waste + no line jumping.

I went by Delco. Huge line and it's appointment only.

Glad they got it sorted out. And glad I didn't have to have that fight with the wife over the ethics of skipping the line!

Had it. Flu was way worse. Definitely not taking the first year's vaccine.

Can't speak for delco but most distribution groups are going to great lengths of ensuring 1B only while also preventing any wasted doses.

I hope all those people in line are elderly or really fat. I've got 85 yr old parents who can't get an appt.
