As the title says. Going to a concert at Moody Theater. Want to park the car and walk to some place interesting to eat.

Any suggestions?

La Condesa is across the street if you're willing to spend some money. If you want something cheaper, Jo's is about a block away and has good sandwiches, etc.

Lamberts is across the street. Its definitely worth checking out.

I will second LaCondesa as a good choice as well especially if its patio weather.

A couple blocks away is Garridos. Im a big fan of David Garrido from when he was at Jeffreys.

To second what's been said - Lamberts if you've never been. Garrido's if you want "mexican" over La Condesa and I like Cantina Laredo at 3rd and CO better than La Condesa too. There's a tapas bar (Malaga) next to La Condesa if you're looking for that or Jo's if you want cheap. Their pulled pork sandwich is pretty good.

If you're looking for something specific, you can probably find an offering within ~6 blocks of the W (Chinese, American, BBQ, steaks, mexican, wine bars, coffee shops, sandwich shops, etc).

Loud and a bit tight. Good food, but there are better options for the price. Not crazy enough about it to add to our dinner rotation, but it's worth going for lunch.

I went very early in their existence. Most of it was very good, but there were a couple misses.

Ate at La Condesa. Food very good. Service aloof and irritating. Obviously popular, at least on nights when there is a show at Moody.

Wanted to try Second Bar. Also considered Mulberry - since I had some of their food a the Live Fire food festival two weeks ago.

Appreciate the suggestions.

I find this to be true a fairly high percentage of the time when we eat out, especially in any of the "trendy" places.

Glad to hear the food was good.

I think you are right about this kind of service at many trendy places. Most aggravating at La Condesa was the unwillingness to sit us at a table when there were many open. The said "oh we thought you wanted to stay at the bar." We said no such thing and when I complained they said "oh if you'll close your bar tab we'll sit you right away."

BS!

Service at Moonshine was terrific not long ago. Austin Land and Cattle (twice) has great service.

If you care about service, don't ever go to a restaurant run by Sonya Cote.

Hillside Farmacy is up there in my worst dining experiences.

What restaurants are run by Ms Cote?

Was the chef at Eastside Showroom.
Hillside Farmacy.
About top open Eden East.

If you go to any of her places, you will see that she puts a huge emphasis on the aesthetics of the place. That includes hiring lazy hipsters that match the decor. At least they look 'good' while they ignore you.

Lamberts is awesome. La Condesa is really good too, but damn it's expensive.

Really want to try Swift's Attic.

I'm at Swiss attic now for lunch. Just happened to be walking by. About to get a fried quail po boy.

What's the verdict on Swifts Attic?

It was just alright. I had eaten there once before on someone else's dime and had a $25 entree and it was good. That quail po boy was not that great though.

They have a very eclectic menu. It is probably better at dinner time. I go to Annies next door for lunch some and it is a good lunch place, but thought I would try something different.

Anyone eaten at Sway (East Austin)?

I had their "Jungle Curry" at the Live Fire food fest a bit ago and it was possibly the most explosive (flavor) thing I've eaten in years. It was the only thing I had seconds of at that festival. Many things were tasty but I had to have more of that jungle curry.

I ate at Sway last week, easily one of my new favorite restaurants. Awesome food and ambience.

I had the Jungle Curry and it was good but holy hell it was spicy. Probably my least favorite dish but unfortunately I don't even remember what else I ordered (it was a lot, and family style).

But definitely one of the top restaurants in town now.

It's not east though. It's on South Lamar right next to Elizabeth St cafe.

I ate at some place right around there prior to the Texas Heritage Songwriters induction last year; however, I can't remember what it was called. They had quite a few specialty hotdogs, and I believe all their beer choices were in bottles (may have had a couple on draft). Wasn't spectacular at all, I believe it was on 2nd, wouldn't put it very high on my recommended list.

Panther - yes it was spicy. Thanks for the correction on where it is. I plan to visit for a real meal there soon.

Sounds like Franks. Never been fond of their food. Bangers seems to be doing a better job on both beer and sausages. Too bad it is on Rainey making parking hell.

Someone in this damn town needs to start making good poutine. Neither place wowed me with that.

Seriously as in I went to Canada a couple weeks ago and that's what I would expect a Canadian to pissed about not being able to find in Texas.

Also, Tim Howards<<<Whataburger.

op fwiw: coal vines has horrendous service, la condessa is overrated, trace may be worth it on someone else's dime. Swifts attic is also disappointing. Lamberts and mulberry are solid choices and there is no shortage of decent steak places around moody.
