mcnasty - where were these rumors?

What I've heard:

Erin Hogan got canned yesterday afternoon. Was suppose to be leaving anyhow and was talking about it generally for a week or so. Bucky said Erin will be heard again very soon (which sounds like another radio gig in Austin).

Ed CLements - on KLBJ FM the jocks were asking him if he is leaving or not? He didn't answer

1300 AM Greg Hanson leaves and Kevin and AJ keep saying this is temporary thing

1530 AM getting stronger and stronger team together and talk more devotedly to sports and either 590 or 1300 have in quite a while. Wonder if 1530 is going to make a play to be the UT Flagship sports station pretty soon. It would make sense as it is ESPN.


However, 1530 has turned into the biggest set of homers this side of Mack Brown's backside. Sean Adams from UT's Rival network is Mr. Sunshipe pumper in every story. And then there is the complete dum ace Chip Brown from DMN who has his nose up Mack's rear-end so far and still thinks the world smells rosy. Chip takes stupid shots at A&M every stinking chance he gets no matter how realistic it is. He banged on Jessie Herring for his interview styles...says Sherman has done a bad job so far. He talks about what an "amaaazing" job mack has done in treating Major Applesauce over the years, what an "amaaaazing" job he is doing in hiring these coaches. He tells stories wistfully about walking with Mack and Sally in downtown NY city before the Heisman awards. gag. ANd he's the Big XII overall sportswriter for the DMN....

I agree that 1530 is unlistenable. B&E were the closest thing to an honest assessment of the horns and Big12. Everyone else is financially compelled to cozy up to MB and the program, so much that the local stations act like the PR branch of the athletic department. I still can't bring myself to listen to national programs because I don't care much about east/west coast happenings.

Also, about Chip Brown, A&M really needs to get that journalism department ramped up again. Guys like him will continue to take pot shots at A&M as long as it benefits his alma mater/paycheck.

Hey, did you hear that Major Applewhite is back? I heard it mentioned once or twice for a brief second, so you might have missed the news.

Wow. Gregg Henson is an absolute nightmare.

I used to listen to ESPN Radio all the time. I thought the John Mudanne (sp?) show was pretty good. I liked his coverage of the Stros, and he was a pretty good sports host.

Then, GH took over, and it became a high school gag show...Horrible. I can't stand to listen to someone make fun of people.

So, I switched to 1300, even though it was very homeresque. I especially liked B and E, and also Chad and Kevin. Craig Way is a good announcer, but horrific talk show host.

Then, of course, GH was hired. How and why they would do that was beyond me. Of course, it tanked too. His humor may work in some markets, but not here. It sucked, and he ruined it all.

Now, I have nothing. I guess I actually have to get my FM radio fixed in my truck

Gregg Henson was truly a train wreck. 1300 has pretty much committed radio suicide.

Hopefully 1530 will become strong. Need something decent.

I agree. When Dan left, it kinda lost the balance, but was still better than anything else out there.

Greg Henson was AWFUL, and it seemed like AJ struggled with him as a partner.

B&E is terrible. I couldn't stand the 'Buck on Sports' and the "Go hard or go Home" over the top corny gheyness that show had.


It'll be interesting to see what happens. I heard 1300 advertising a big announcement soon, on my way home. I thought it was kinda dumb that they had and announcement, advertising an announcement.

Either way....I hope they get someone on soon, that can talk sports, and entertain a bit as well.


Also, 1530 needs to ramp up their signal. I'll leave the office in N. Austin by 5pm, and cant hardly get the signal. It's gonna be hard for them to grow ratings, if half the town can't hear them.
