Is there anything I can do about this? They mow their front yard (really crappy), but don't touch their backyard. It is 3-4 feet high throughout the entire backyard. Our backyards back up to each other so I have to look at it every time I go outside.

sounds like you live next door to me. you could always just ask them nicely to cut the grass.

Until you said their yard backs up to yours, I figured you were a neighbor of mine. We're awful about not cutting the back regularly (but the only people it affects is us).

I think everyone's backyard looks like crap next to Turgowned's.

Call the city. They will send someone out to look at it and then if nothing is done, then they will cut it for them and fine them.

I would do something soon, because I have seen too many situations like that where mice end up living in areas like that, then they will end up in your house.

Thanks for posting this! We're having the same issue with our neighbors as well. The grass in the back is hip high.

The gal that lives on the other side of them has been having her lawn service cut the front for them, but our pest control guy has told us that the longer it goes, the bigger the chance of mice, snakes and other "fun" things getting into our yard.

Think I'll be making that call this afternoon.

I talked to a friend at Bryan ordinance enforcement (or whatever it is called) a number of months ago about this exact issue. She said that there isn't much they can do with the backyards. It has to be something that they can see. The only thing is that is if there are rodents, if you can get a picture of the mouse, snake, whatever coming from their side that the health department will get involved.

Their house is on the corner of ponderosa and dallis. I'm not exaggerating when I say it's 3-4 feet high. It bothers me because I take care of my yard and their weeds stick through the fence and spread their seeds to our yard.

Our yard is awful. We keep calling the lawn service people and they keep saying we're "on the list" but they keep getting more and more behind because of the rain. And of course it rained today.

Roundup.

like capt dan said.

put on a pair of boots and jeans late one night and spray their yard down with roundup.

you might need a few of the giant jugs, but just cover the yard with it.

Turgowned ---

Does the lawn in question belong to a house at the corner of Ponderosa and Dalliss or Ponderosa and Bahia?

If it's the latter, then they are friends of mine.

Ok so here is a question. The neighbor around the corner from me doesn't mow at all. Like corner of ponderosa and dallis bad. They have a wire fence on the front of their house and I can see into their back yard where it is horrible. Could this qualify as a lawn issue if you can see their bakyard from the front?

Essentially the east side of their yard with this fence faces the back wood fence of my yard. Can anything be done?

I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter whether or not the lawn can be seen. They have to mow regardless.

Can anyone confirm this?

Unless there are subdivision rules/restrictions or a HOA setup with rules/restrictions there isn't anything you can do about this kind of thing except go talk to your neighbor and ask them to work with you on the issue.

This is from the city website code of ordinances. Chapter 7, Section 1 - C

Wonder if I should complain about the corner of Tarrow and Lincoln. I hate turning left there because of the trees on the northeast corner.

The house across the street from us is uninhabited. Owner 'says' house has sentimental importance to him, so he won't rent it out. Unfortunately, he doesn't keep it up very well, either. The way the yard/driveway/fence is set up, you could see the backyard from the street. Bryan Code Enforcement told him that if the backyard could be seen from the street, it must be mowed. So, the owner installed a piece of plywood over the chain link fence to get around the ordinance.

Sounds like my backyard. Cut them some slack due to the rain. Every day that I have had a chance to mow, it has rained. I finally got to the front yard and it started raining right as I finished.
Señor Chang

Do you know how long it takes grass to get that high? I'd say about 2-3 months. They can't find the time to mow it in 2-3 months?

Yeh I kind of ignored that.....mine is maybe a little over a foot and I haven't mowed it since the rain all started so maybe 3 weeks?

Problem solved. Out of sight, out of mind. This was funny.

Leave it alone! It isn't your backyard. So what if you have to look at it. Unless it is putting your life in danger, don't complain because you don't like the look of it! Live and let live.

You do realize that his neighbor having an unmowed backyard puts him at risk for rodent infestation? I'd bet there are already many living back there.

I believe that an individual property rights trump this. Unless someones life is in danger, it is their property. I disagree with cities having codes such as these.

Irregardless of everything else mentioned on this thread, that is a very selfish and inconsiderate attitude. I'm glad you're not my neighbor. Screw everyone else, I'm looking out for only myself!

Irregardless may appear in the dictionary, but it is nonstandard/not proper. The word you seek is Regardless. tia

yeah, I guess that's kinda a double negative
