so, in December my combined (TV + Internet) was $93. Now it's $166. WTF??!?!?!?

Please, if someone who has made the switch, can you please detail what you switched to and what was the costs?

UMich: When did you start your cable service? Might you have gotten promotional pricing in December? Still seems like a big increase, though.

And regarding DISH vs. DirecTV: My old roommate, who is a very experienced home theater installer, tells me DISH's technology is not as good as DirecTV's. Apparently the difference is mostly in the receivers at the viewing end, but he also suspects DISH uses more and/or lower-quality signal compression. Either might explain some of the audio syncing/volume issues previously mentioned.

So did you call SL to find out what the difference is? I'd be curious to know.

This was why I switched in November. I was paying right at $100/month for tv + internet and it was jumping to $150. I switched to DirecTV. I have Total Choice Plus, 1 HD receiver, 1 regular receiver, and all of the movie channels; it's $80/month.

I still have to use SuddenLink for internet and they're gouging the hell out of anyone who has cable internet, but not cable tv. It's $50/month. Even with them gouging, I get more of the channels I actually want to watch plus internet for $20 less/month than I was paying them alone.

I guess I was on promotional pricing. That made the jump from 90 to 120. But since then, it's gone up quite a bit (to over 160).

99_aggie_grad, maybe you should get on the company computers and see what the deal is with his account.

I'm through dealing with their crappy HD services. Returned the box and just going to deal with the QAM on my tv to watch the locals. I was really only paying to watch ESPN anyway...and that's not worth like 30 extra dollars to me. Maybe around football season. :P I probably won't reorder the HD channels until we get at least ESPN2 HD.

Now see...DirecTV has HD ESPN2
