Tom's has been gone for a long time. It was awful for about the last ten years that it was open.

The new place in the old Tom's location (J. Cody's) is pretty good for BBQ, as is Martin's just a little further down S. College.

C&J's is the new Tom's, altough I think people overrate it a bit.

Tom's went under new management around '95 or '96 and was never the same after that. It's been closed since a few years after that and the building isn't even there anymore.

I think he was talking about the "old" location on South College...

The original building at Texas and University is still there.

That place was doomed the second they decided to start supplying forks.

There was one at Texas & University? I'd always been to the old one on S. College or the now demolished location at Holleman and Texas (from about 94ish until I stopped going in 96, because it'd gotten awful).

There wasn't one at University and Texas... someone is just mis-remembering street names.

The original Tom's BBQ was on the east side of Texas, north of University. That was the location when I moved here in 1981. I think the building was torn down when they built one of the two hotels that are just north of the new Sonic.

Uh, yes there was.

I ate there many, many times as a kid.

And the building is still there... it's an insurance office I think.

Hey Tom in College Station- Have you really been here that long? I guess I won't see you at 6:30 this morning... Notice the post time ^

I just can't sleep tonight!

Tom's was one of the best places in town to eat until Domino's started serving that Bacon Cheeseburger Thin Crust Pizza!

nothing beats a 16 oz Aggie Special in 1991...

knife, cheese, pickle, onion, brisket, bread, sauce...

repeat.

I'll put Fargo's BBQ ahead of C&J's there sause is incredible and also the meat is way more tender than C&J's.

My bad... I'm used to being the old guy on these boards and that was before my time (one on University and Texas).

C & J's has potatoes that nobody else can beat. I look forward to them more than the brisket.

Buppy's has a great buffet, too.

Oh, heck. I'm just so happy to get my hands on brisket or sausage that I don't fuss. Take me to Rudy's and I'm perfectly happy.

92TAMU, you're killing me! I wasn't there at 6:30am either.

I would too, when I said C&J's was the new Tom's, I meant in terms of popularity and hype, not quality.

Well none of you have been to the best in town. Junek's Barbeque Grill is by far better than any of those you mentioned. There beef, chicken, ribs smoked turkey breast and homemade sauce is great. Plus they have the best hand breaded CF Steak in BCS and great burgers. Prices are very reasonable and cobbler for dessert is yummy. Check it out on Wellborn
Rd. in downtown Wellborn.

Back in the 70's Tom's was THE place to go for BBQ....... it was terrific. Keith Jackson with ABC would always get his lunch from Tom's when he was in town calling a game.... he loved it so much, for a while, he would have his lunch shipped in from Tom's to other parts of the country wherever he was calling a game.........

As I recall the guy that started Toms had a place for some years in North Bryan. it wasn't called Toms. I'm thinking about 1960something. Then it became a place that made tamalies. Then it closed.

bah. Best Chicken Fried Steak in B/CS is Hampton's Cafe, just south of the Bend in Bryan. Hampton's makes everything from scratch. Nobody in town can touch them.

I like Rudy's Sause over C&J's sauce, but that's personal opinion. I'd take a hot stick in the eye over Buppy's. I've never liked Buppy's. Ever.

C&J has been here at least 12 years. I remember when they were selling BBQ sandwiches out of the gas station/store on Hwy 30 my freshman year.

I think the best BBQ that the town has had was the Buddy's BBQ under the RR tracks behind Weiners in North Bryan...on HWY21. They had a 100 year old brick pit that gave flavor left over from the 1800's. I was also pretty fond of Randy Sims back before he became a politico.

Sadly, not many people even know where the Weiners was...

the tracks have a new bridge over 21...

and unfortunately, North Bryan is still there.

The reason I know is because I worked at the CS Weiners from 95-98. Now that place is a pawn shop, right?
