Looking for a good vet with resonably prices. Anyone have any suggestions? I need to take my puppy for her 10 week checkup and shots.

Laurie Lipsey, Boonville Animal Hospital!

My dogs have had three surgeries there, and the prices are great (I think the checkup prices are fairly standard). More importantly, she is an awesome vet.

2nd vote for Laurie Lipsey. She's been our animal's vet for 15 years and is the best.

College Hills Vet. They've had to do some major things to our corgi and chesapeake and the price wasn't nearly what I was expecting.

If you think College Hills is reasonably priced you are out of your mind. Call Marden Animal Clinic at 589-2500. I've recently switched to them, and their prices are great, and the vet work is top-notch. Plus, they give a discount if you bring in multiple pets at once.

There are several threads on this subject.
We've used Dr. Bond at Southwood Valley Animal Hospital for almost 10 years. I don't know anywhere else as convenient, inexpensive, friendly, quick and good as them. My lab is there now to have a growth removed from his elbow -- $60. Just the lab test that TAMU is going to perform on the growth is going to cost that.

Lab and Aussie went in for their annuals last Saturday -- physical, heartworm tests, annual shots (bordatella, lepto), county tags, 6 months of heartworm pills was just over $200. Seems good-priced to me.

I think the TAMU Small Animal Clinic is reasonably priced. We take our 4 cats there and not once have I thought that they were ripping us off.

We use Anderson Ridge Vet Hospital and are very happy. Dr. Scamardo and Dr. Dozier are great. They are on Anderson just south of Holleman. My wife was using them when I met her almost 20 years ago. The staff there is great as well. We do miss seeing Teri at the front desk.

Most vets in town are cheaper than the clinic. And I say this having multiple friends who [have] work [worked] there. My parents also adopted a lab from one of the research projects and she was spayed at the clinic. I couldn't believe the bill on that when I picked her up. Glad they were paying for it and not me. My friend who previously worked in their billing dept said that it's not uncommon for most pet owners to go on payment plans after trips to the clinic.

What was the bill? Did it only include the spaying or was there some boarding cost? Just curious.

True enough, the vet school is expensive. However, the extra price comes with having all sorts of equipment and staff that private clinics couldn't possibly afford. In fact, most private clinics would be insane to have a CT scanner, nuclear medicine, etc because nowhere near enough people would pay for those services to make them economically viable. Hence, the vet school is mostly a secondary care facility, meaning that most patients are referred there by other vets for things that can't be done at a normal clinic. Long story short, private clinics are your best bet for most services, but it's nice to have the vet school for the big stuff.

I should really reconsider where we take our cats then. I honestly go there because I thought it was the best deal in town.

OWH is on the money. If you have a serious issue with your pet and need top of the line care and equipment, the Small Animal Clinic is definitely the place to go. If you need routine care for check-ups or spay/neuter, there are plenty of small clinics in town that handle this at a better price.

The TAMU Small Animal Clinic seemed very well priced to me. I took my Shi Tszu there for several years before moving away.

3rd vote for Lipsey. She is wonderful. I've never heard anything bad about her clinic and she's been our vet for years. She has a way that puts animals and owners at ease and her prices are very reasonable.

Yet another vote for Dr. Bond.

First time he looked at Kyra the conversation went as such :

Dr. Bond : "Oh! I love Aussies. I have one myself."

Me : "She's been great so far." (had only had her a weel or two.)

Dr. Bond : "Would you like to meet mine?"

Turns out he usually keeps his dog in the office. He's an Ag (who isn't down there) and one of the nicest people I've ever done business with. And at the time the assistants he had working there were incredibly hot. Extra bonus.

She has stayed up all night with my dog before. She is the best and I believe she does large animals as well.

I am in total agreement with Dr. Bonds as the best. He is a wonderful and nice man. I take my shelties to him and he is always so loving with them. I took my dogs in and they were way overdue for all shots. I had them updated on all shots, tested for heartworms, toenails trimmed and purchased a 6 month supply of heartworm preventions for about $200. I don't remember the exact amount and it may have been a little lower than that.
