Appraisal went up 10%, and my tax bill went up 12%. Hoping Ownwell can get my appraised value lowered again this year.

I'm not sure I follow. The invoices posted right now for 2026 reflect the summer protest period. The ship for protesting 2026 values has sailed. Pre-protest values for 2027 will not come out until the Spring of next year-

I received this on 10/21:

Property Tax Reminder
Your protest is in progress. Tax bills are coming soon.

This is a quick reminder that we are still working hard on your property tax protest. The protest process can take several months depending on the capacity of the county offices, but at this time, there is no further action required from you. You can always check your latest status and view more information by logging into your Property Portal.

As county tax bills arrive in the next few weeks, please remember that your payment is due by January 31, 2027. If your protest is completed before this deadline, your tax bill will be adjusted automatically. However, if your protest is still open at that time, we recommend you pay the bill by the due date as issued to avoid penalties; the county will refund you the difference once your valuation is successfully lowered. If your taxes are paid through a mortgage escrow account, your lender will handle the payment automatically.

Thank you for choosing Ownwell.

Has anyone ever done their own protest instead of paying Ownell?

Ownwell is too easy to not use it. They lowered my house value from $550K to $400k. I paid around $250 for the $1000 savings.

They charge 25% of your actual tax savings for your bill.

Took me 5 minutes to sign up for two properties I own. Set it and forget it. They sent me an email when it was all resolved.

I'm only asking why because a friend said why pay someone when you can do it yourself? He says he gets comps from his realtor. But then he has to go in and this year got denied. Why waste your time??? And he says to always refuse their original offer.

Pretty sure my boss did hers herself. I'm not sure what all she had to bring, but she was able to get her appraisal and tax bill lowered.

Always successful too, but Ownwell is SO much easier.

The way I see it is that Ownwell does this professionally and has made a whole business out of it. They are very motivated to get your property taxes lowered and it is much easier for them to do it than for me to go down there myself.

Used Ownwell last year and no effort on my part to save money

This year they said they could only reduce my valuation by about $314 so they said since this so small there will be no charge.

You can definitely do it yourself for free but that's just too much effort for me
