How long do you want to ignore this user?
Any plumbers out there that can remove a small root ball from my residential sewer drain. Root ball is about 17-20 feet from cleanout, under my bathroom. Current quotes I've received range from $1,500-$15,000. I would try myself but don't have proper equipment. I understand this would be a temporary fix as roots will grow back in time, but I don't have an extra $15,000 just laying around for permanent repair.. Thank you in advance.

Did they tell you they had to pull commode and go thru the 4 inch line

No. First estimate ($15,000) was to tunnel under house to broken fitting near toilet and replace. Or they could cut out concrete in house and repair from there. The fitting has a small crack, hence the root infiltration. It's a small crack as viewed on camera but they quoted me $1,500 just to remove roots. It seems to be a small root ball that is hanging from the vertical fitting, not laying on the bottom of drain.

So it is in the 1 1/2 inch not the 4 inch

So what does not drain

The tub
The sink
The toilet
Or
The tub/sink since they are tied together

Which one is not drainingnproperly

It is in the 4 inch drain to the street, about 1-2 feet in front of the toilet, under the foundation. Toilet and tub back up, toilet is right next to tub.

I believe it is called copper sulphate but before you pour that is it cast iron or pvc

Also I have never used it but plimbers have told me to at my apartments but they are all pvc also

Drains are PVC. I've looked at using something similar, the problem is the root ball does not lay on bottom of drain. It is hanging just above from a junction fitting, it barely touches the bottom of 4 inch drain line. I have thought about removing the toilet and trying from that side but I don't have any way to see or reach the root. I'd like to know for sure it has been removed.

I'd get some other quotes before paying $1500. Holmans plumbing should be able to do it for a lot less than that.

I am currently looking for other quotes.

They were the $15,000 quote. They didn't seem interested in using the clean out to reach the root. I may give them another try though. Not bashing them, their tech was very professional and did the camera work. They provided a quote for a permanent fix.

This is basically what your looking at but when I did have a issue at my apartments we did have to cu the 4 inch vent pipe to toilet and run the sewer machine in that

Yes, similar. In the illustration, the root would be located approx. 2-4 feet from the PVC toilet drain vertical, near the 45 degree connection.

Copper sulfate will kill the roots. I had an issue with a house I had in Houston, neighbors tree was growing into the drain line on my side of the fence. Neighbor wasn't very helpful, said "that's not my problem", so I put a bunch down the clean out one night right before bed.

Dude's tree was dead in a week. He got upset that the tree was dead…. Me: well, I went to you first, you didn't wanna hear it, bud…. "Not my problem now".

I've seen this along with many others. This seems to be the best product for this situation, I'll give it a try. Thank you to everyone for your input.

What kind of tree is it and how far is it from foundation.

No trees in immediate area, but I do have a flower bed in front about 10-15 feet from where roots have entered drain.
