From TexAgs Sponsor, J.L. Wright & Co.:

Howdy,

Jacob Wright '18 here. We'll be exhibiting at Wheels, Watches & Whiskey on September 26 at The Stella in Bryan. Exotic cars, whiskey tastings, and watches, benefiting OnRamp, which provides transportation to families across Central Texas.

We're bringing all three watchmakers:
  • ZRC 1904,
  • Edouard Koehn,
  • Tutima Glashutte.
  • Plus a table of Bosphorus watch rolls.

Code JLWC takes $20 off per ticket at wheelswatcheswhiskey.com

I'm afraid this event is out of most folk's price range. I mean, I could bring my 88 Volvo and Garmin Smart watch, but i doubt I'd turn any heads.

And in these economic times this event seems a little out of touch.

Post this in the high end watch thread on the Houston board. There will be interest.

Also post on the Automotive board.

If you're right they'll figure it out when nobody comes. Or they'll get a great crowd and do it again next year. Both of those are better outcomes than not doing it al all because some segment of the population can't afford it. For all of time the economy has been hard for someone. This isn't unique.

Agreed. For every complaint about we can't have good things around here, it seems there are two more complaining when good things do happen.

I have the watches and whiskey down. I have never been an exotic car guy, mainly because my friends that have them, spend an inordinate amount of money on them. I have a wife, and a teenager, and a house with a pool, that would preclude me from buying a McLaren or a Corvette, even. So, for that reason, I'll pass.

For the TexAgs Record - Tag Heuer or Apple, Eagle Rare or Weller Antique 107, and a Jeep

Problem is that we had a legit race track. Bulldozed and crap houses built on it.

We had scrub car and truck meets. Bro-dozers doing burnouts and littering killed that (rightly so)

We have "Cars and Coffee" which happens on a Sunday morning so no one that goes to Church can attend.

We have this Watches, Wheels, and Whisky thing that is out of reach for an outrageous 100 dollar ticket. I would have brought my kids to this, but I'd rather go to the F1 race at COTA for that price!

I just want an adult car hang that isn't wasp-y and isn't filled with Drunks in Brodozers.

Thanks for coming to my Ted talk

Sounds like there's not enough money in any of the local car events to justify their existence. The race track was closed because nobody could justify keeping it open. At some point before that it became a parking lot for totaled cars from Harvey. The other events I'm not super familiar with except for all the videos of Mustang bro's running over curbs at Coffee and Cars. lol

I have no clue if this event will succeed or not but in the end it's always about money. Maybe they'll do well enough to come back and figure out that $100/head isn't family friendly. I have no clue but expecting it to happen just because isn't a good plan. I'm glad someone is trying something new. Let's see how it turns out and go from there.

Then that's a good sign they already figured something out which is good to hear. This whole conversation started because someone said it was too expensive but that doesn't like it's accurate. Gold they appear to be successful.

It was really well done IMO. Good turn out, seemed like quite a bit of effort went into making it feel "nice"

I will say, I never saw this sponsors booth…I probably just missed it but saw Tudor, bulova, ridgeline, watch reserve

As far as the cars, some really cool ones: SF90 and ZR1X were the highlights for me. F8 and a few beautiful Astons, Ford GT. And of course 993s and 964s

Bonus: it cut down the time I had to watch the game pretty significantly.

We were in Herschel's, off the main lawn. Right behind the blue Aston Martin DB5.

I have to agree, it was my was first time there as a vendor or attendee and it was very well done. Great turnout.

My wife helped me with the event, and gave score updates throughout. Was a blessing to miss that game, cause I would have been pissed the entire time.
