Need to plane 6 stair treads down about a 1/4" . No luck on renting one.

I bought one at Harbor Freight. Pretty cheap and worked pretty well.

Yep. Can't justify buying one for 6 stair treads though. Don't have use for one otherwise.

A 1/4 inch is alot for a planer from Harbor Frieght or lowes

I have a lowes dewalt planer if you cant find one but I would try a cabinet shop and go ask them to plane for you

Take 20-30 bucks I would assume.

Just FYI, you would never remove 1/4" of wood in one pass. That's a multi pass situation on any planer you'd be using. I'd probably remove a fraction from both sides to true up first. Doing this in even two shots will gouge your wood and be really hard on your tools if not ruin the blade.

Either way, I'd find a shop that would do a couple treads as advised.

Or you can get an old No.7 Bailey, learn to sharpen irons, and do it the old school way….it would be cheaper. But not cheaper than paying a guy. And you might need some extra treads. lol.

Ha. My point was it aint as simple as just running thru a planer

It needs to be a very good planer from a cabinet shop
