Today at the intersection of College and University, I witnessed 3 individuals crossing the intersection diagonally from different corners. Traffic came to a standstill from all directions and not one of the kids walked any faster than a slow stroll. Is this a thing now? It can't be legal can it?

This is all day every day during the school year at that location.

There used to be signage on the sidewalks at all four corners telling people not to cross diagonally, but those didn't last.

Lots of international students cross there and diagonal crossing is common in many countries.

The signage is still there; however, our students are unable to read? Just joking. Even if the crossing time is extended, the problem will remain. A few strays will inevitably enter the intersection as the timed crossing approaches zero.

Not a problem until they go to an unprotected intersection and get run over doing it.

But when a cop does their job and tickets people for it, here come the "shouldn't they be out there stopping real crimes" complaints.

My pet peeve is the "East Bypass construction speed limits". BCS PD's could be working for taxpayers' free with speeding fines!

Diagonal crossing is extremely common in many parts of this country, in my experience.

More of the crosswalks in town should not allow any traffic, such as right turns, while pedestrians are crossing. I've seen pickups turn right on red at University Dr and Tauber, which says 'no turns on red', and then slam brakes because a pedestrian was trying to cross. She was fine though, she had a big umbrella in one hand and gave that truck's hood a good whack.

There also used to be signage about no turns on red, now that cycle only lights up when it's the pedestrian cycle.

The intersection was designed to allow for this. It's red all directions to allow crossing all directions at the same time.

as stated above, common in US and internationally. I like the idea.

All of those intersections in the area were changed a few years ago. When they first redid them, they tried to enforce the diagonal walking, but it became too much of a hassle and they then shut down the intersections to all traffic to allow diagonal crossing. Nothing wrong with it. No right on red on any of them.
