There is a rumor floating around that we are getting a Trader Joe's. What are the chances that this rumor is true?

Waco is getting one this year. That opens up the logistics from Houston distribution to that location along with their normal I35 distribution routing. That makes it possible now.

I don't know any real verified truths, but I was at the newest Trader Joe's in Houston and the transition manager who goes to open new stores said to me "excited to get yalls store" when I told her I was from College Station. Then I questioned her trying to get more details and she shut me down haha.

I will be elated if it actually happens. Until then, I will keep shopping at the one in Katy and Fort Worth

No official plans have been announced for a Trader Joe's to come to College Station.

The grocery chain recently announced a massive expansion wave across the United States, but College Station is not on the active "coming soon" roster.

The current local reality behind the rumors shapes up as follows:

Active Recruitment:
College Station city officials and the Economic Development team have explicitly stated that recruiting destination specialty grocers like Trader Joe's and Whole Foods is a high priority. They are actively looking at avenues to pitch the area to these corporate offices.

Corporate Interest:
In late 2022, former Trader Joe's CEO Dan Bane mentioned at an event that the corporate team would look into a College Station location. However, no formal land purchase or project filing has happened since then.

Community Demand:
Local residents and Texas A&M students continuously lobby for the store, including a persistent Change.org Petition to demonstrate market demand to the grocery chain's corporate planners.

I see no mention of Waco on this list (unless I missed it): https://www.traderjoes.com/home/announcements?category=store-openings

Going into the old Big Lots at Richland Hills per their news station KCEN.

A Trader Joe's would be a great fit for our community. Whole Food's would be a swing and a miss. Far too pricey, with limited selection. We moved here several years ago from a more upscale area, and the new Whole Foods there struggled. The Trader Joe's was a bit further, but it was a good success. Sprout's, opening soon in the old Big Lots location, is similar to Whole Foods in many ways, but more everyday shop-able.

Ah-hah! I'll look for it when I'm in Waco.

What plot of dirt is just big enough to leave space for 12 parking spots after construction? That's where it will go in.

This is the way. I love Trader Joe's but there are never enough parking spaces.

And those that are there are awkward to get in/out of.

Last time we were in the Katy TJs, the cashier told me they (corporate) were kicking the tires on a possible location in B/CS - but that was before Christmas, so maybe he was just feeling the holiday spirit(s).

They must have done something wrong at the one in my parents' town. It moved in to the former K-mart location (who remembers K-mart?) and has good parking availability.

Trader Joe's here would be great (even though I live in Bryan). Whole Paycheck Foods I can live without.
