Learned with my late son that we are our only advocates for our children, at the end of the day.

Son is a complex little guy and I need to find either a pediatrician who will listen and be willing to review his labs, diagnoses, and symptoms as a holistic case and (potentially) be willing to try thyroid medication, OR I need to find an endocrinologist who will look at him in the same way. Dealing with ADHD, neurodivergency, autoimmune things (everything, including labs, points to Hashimotos but current pedi wants to do the "wait and see" approach and he NEEDS help of some sort before a year from now).

Any suggestions around BCS? I'm trying to avoid going all the way to TCH Endo in Houston for a variety of reasons (time and effort on him, ptsd/trauma for myself).

If you want that specialized you will have to go to TCH or Dell Children's. You are asking for something not available in Citrix 2-3-4x the size of BCS. If you found it in a smaller place it would just be a unicorn kind of find. Sorry but just not enough demand for what you are looking for in the pediatric world for it to be more common.

My son is on the spectrum and we use UPA Kyle Henderson for his pediatrician, but his specialists are at Texas Children's in Austin. Unfortunately for us select few, there simply isn't enough demand here in BCS for a lot of pediatric specialists.

Try TCH The Woodlands. Schedule mid-morning and you'll miss traffic and it's a little over a hour drive from College Station.. everyone has their own opinions but it works for us.

It sounds like you want your kid who has positive antibodies for thyroid but with normal thyroid function to be placed on synthetic thyroid hormone. That would be dangerous and not help with autism, neuroinflammation, or ADHD. In fact it would likely worsen it..

I enjoy these kinds of puzzles but there is rarely a miracle or simple answer in these cases. But if you want another set of eyes to look over the data I am happy to do that. Im with the TCH group in College Station now, Dr Spears.

From the Endo standpoint Dr Ponder with S&W is legendary. He comes to town intermittently.

Dr Spears is our pediatrician and has been phenomenal through some weird stuff with our kids. Would recommend him every day and twice on Sundays.

As far as specialists go, we tend to prefer TCH Katy over the Woodlands. Just personsl preference- we make the drive several times a year for various things. We have also used McLanes in Temple (BSW) and have no complaints with the specialists we have seen there either.

We are in the practice already, and I'd already considered coming to see you for a second opinion. Trouble told me you're phenomenal when I asked. You're correct in that the antibodies (Thyroid Perox AB and Thyroglobulin AB are high), and T3 Uptake is low. He has many classic Hashimoto's/thyroid issue symptoms, as well.

I understand that thyroid meds do not "help" with any of his other things. Sorry if my comment implied that. I was trying to contextualize that he's a pretty complex guy. I will get on the books to see if you think there's anything you feel like we're missing other than just sitting and waiting. I am not expecting a miracle or a quick fix, rather another set of eyes willing to look at the whole person and not just an aspect. Plus, if I were going to be afforded a miracle in this life, I would hope it would have been with my other (late) son.
