Looked at the first 10 pages or so and didn't see anything. Will be having surgery and won't be able to take care of my 1 year old Lab for a week to 10 days and haven't used any kennel in B/CS. Would welcome any recommendations for a good place for him to stay. Thanks.

Waggie Pet Zone has been good the few times we've used them. Staff is all helpful and keeps you in the loop during your pups stay.

We use Bluebonnet Pet Ranch on Hwy 30. https://bluebonnetpetranch.com/

Have used them for up to 10days boarding, nice facility. Dogs are given playtime- Might check them out on Facebook.

Good luck on your surgery.

We've used Waggie Pet Zone as well as America's Country Store on Wellborn. Both were good. I'd probably give a slight nod to America's country store. I think their facilities were a little nicer is all. Both were comparable overall though.

Waggie has some good people

Bluebonnet has gotten so popular it's hard to get in if you're not a member. It's a great place if you can get in.

There is another one off of Elmo Weedon that we used once.

Likely a bit out of the way but there are 2 nice boarding places here near Lyons https://www.wigglebuttz.net/ and another near Deanville. https://www.facebook.com/people/DKK/61572943919940/

My MIL has used The Kennels at Choco Ranch. Its a little out of town (off of Dick Elliott Rd), but she was very happy with them and their rates.

New one is Rowdy Paws Pet Lodge on FM 2818 near Leonard Rd. Next to West Brazos Animal Center.

America's Country Store & Pet Resort has been great for our dogs. In addition to deluxe boarding options, they have optional daycare where they get some playtime with other dogs. You will have to get a pre-assessment before they will allow a new dog in the day care. That applies to just about any kennel that offers day care / play time.

They're great, wonderful folks. Our dog must love it there because every time we leave her there, she comes home alive.

But lawd, they're getting expensive.

Well from what I am discovering, they're all getting expensive. The times we live in I guess.

there are so few in this area that I'm afraid to give out any names.
almost always booked in the summer.
I hope I did not offend anybody with this post. If I did, please come see me at my address in my profile so we can talk.

Yep, they are expensive and a variety of amenities. You should be able to get some sort of discount for the length of stay you are going to need.

We spent a good bit of time visiting and comparison shopping looking at kennel size, smell and hygiene. Even talked to our vet for recommendations. You mentioned a 1yr Lab- Would suggest you look at facilities that have strict vaccination guidelines and policy of pairing pets for playtime.

Over the years we have boarded our dogs at several of the facilities above, and while we never had a bad experience, we have found that our dogs are much happier and more comfortable being able to stay at home. For about the same money we can have someone come in and house/pet sit while we're gone. We feel better about it, our dogs seem happier...for us at least it's the right choice.

We use friends of our kids from high school / college who still live around here, but I have heard many good things about the sitters available on the WAG app.

Personal experience:
Kennels/boarding is VERY stressful to dogs ("Why did my human put me in jail?") AND it's extremely "germ-ey." Not to mention unknown diet changes. After a few times at a pet resort, my dog went downhill VERY fast, health-wise and stress-wise (noticeable drop in previous good discipline).

New dog - we use house sitters. I am in charge of the cleanliness, diet, AND it does not disrupt the familiarity reducing the stress. We used Rover and interviewed several candidates. To me, the expense is worth it. This is an important part of any trip/travel planning in our household. I am not wealthy nor considered "uppity." Just offering my experience and approach. Take with a grain of salt.

I'm glad to hear the OP is researching this - trait of a good Dog Parent!

Diet changes?!?! Every kennel/pet boarding place we have ever used uses our food and on our normal schedule. We just provide it to them, and we have always gotten updates on when/what they are fed, along with timestamped logs.

If you are at a "germ-y" facility, that's your own fault. Tour it before you leave your pet there. There are plenty of clean and sanitary pet boarding facilities.

I'm not familiar with the WAG app but if it's like Rover, they are independent contractors. They may or may not be bonded or trained to handle pet emergencies. Aggieland Pet Sitting is fully insured, bonded, and trained in pet CPR and other skills. Plus, they are a team which makes them more flexible and available (for instance, if a sitter assigned to your pet happened to have an emergency come up or something keeping them from getting to your pet, another team member can be assigned. You dont get that with a single contractor.) The team communicates constantly to improve your pet's experience. Highly recommend!

Yes this is what I've found. You provide his food and eating schedule. Even his treats. If it's not clean, he's not staying. He's current with all his meds/preventatives.

Yeah - did ALL of that. Thanks for your input though.
