Looking for a good local eye doc. I'm not sure why the 2nd or 3rd most important organ in the body is relegated to strip mall shops, but that seems to be the case.
Currently looking at Brazos Valley Eyecare in the mall, mainly because they had the cleanest website, although recommendations would be welcome.

Optometrist (your subject) or Ophthalmologist (MD or DO physician )? Optometrist are OD. Different skill set and training. Eye Doc could be either - but not the same.

Precision Eye Care. Excellent staff. They have a new piece of equipment every time I go in. Clearly reinvesting and trying to always improve.

Dr Scasta. She is fantastic, straightforward, easy to get into, and never had billing issues. She has managed my eyes for years (including injuries and being high risk for various issues).

Edit to add: i switched to scasta from urban optics after their horrible billing practices pushed me away. Dr Scasta has the same technology as Urban Optics.

This! Dr. Shini is great and I've been seeing him for 12+ years.


If I had to change, I would go to Dr. Greene at Urban Optics.

I just wish I could find a quality local lens maker that takes A&M vision insurance. Texas regional Eye's internal one told me $600 for progressives after insurance, I can get the same thing online for near 0. Happy to pay more for local, but not $600 more. I already have frames and don't have a Costco membership...
